Thé second set of photos threw me, because my immediate reaction to the first was that I had rowed under that bridge dozens of times

Did you row on the Mystic or only the Charles? I know the Tufts boathouse is just up the fork into the Malden river on the left in the original photo so you might have rowed against them?

Both, though much, much more on the Charles.

Tufts aren't a "traditional opponent". Nor are MIT or BU, which is even weirder as we woupdass their boathouses in training all the time.

The bridge looks like a number of those on the Charles we would row under, but I can't actually recall if we did. Needless to say, the casino wasn't there.

I'm sure your lot wouldn't demean themselves by rowing against a technical college like the one downstream from you.

I have a feeling that rowing on these rivers was probably more dangerous back when you were doing it. I think if you accidentally swallowed any of the water from the Mystic back more than a couple of decades ago you'd probably end up with a very unfortunate illness.

Other possible reasons for the inclusion of the bridge over the Mystic:

Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic" was actually about falling off a boat in Medford?
We're not too far from the Bunker Hill Community College in Good Will Hunting?

If it's any help, my last two were Jamaica Inn and Cannery Row.

We were required to get tetanus shots if we ever ingested any river water, but it was nothing compared to our contemporaries at Columbia, who regularly had to deal with people dropping rocks and cinder blocks from the bridges over the Harlem and would generally encounter a body at least once in their career.

Missed this one at the time, been busy - but I ran along there in March this year. I probably still wouldn't have got it though, and then kicked myself when it was revealed.

                  Why we're on the bridge:

I'm stuck in my work for a couple of hours. If anyone has one to put up, go ahead. Otherwise I'll try and create something later.

The combination of the catenary poles and the billboard makes me think Amtrak's Northeast Corridor

Feels like the white things on the far right of the shot are significant.

I assume that's the reason we're here, though there are much closer views, so maybe not.
                                  Somebody else better go.

No that was the reason. I liked the view down the river from the bridge of the stacks.

Just circling the site, I can't see actually any closer views because the sightlines all appear to be obstructed from just about any angle you try.

I see you're Levin again, um, Levin!

Unless Staph has something, this is open for someone to put one up.

                                              OK, I'll do another.

Looking one way, a cafe and some picnic tables:

...and the traditional reverse view, with more picnic tables and a car park:
