How retro. FYI I think a lot of Irish people find it annoying when Brits call it that

Obviously we're all getting celtic vibes off this though because my first thought was that it could be somewhere like Dartmoor

It's a strange term. I've hardly ever heard it spoken, but still see it commonly used in written form, possibly because it's far easier to type than Republic of Ireland. Thing is you could use ROI or R of I and i would imagine almost everyone would know what you are referring to.

I just had a look at Wales based on a possible theme, no luck though.

You're not really that close. The next couple of views are from going forwards (and a little to the right) from the first location.

Still streetview, rather than photosphere, but not actually on a street anymore.

Well that must be the White Horse, but I'm stuffed if I can remember where it is. It's around Reading, isn't it?

Is there more than one White Horse? There's one at Sutton Bank in the North York Moors but I don't remember the landscape around it looking like that at all, and the village doesn't look Yorkshire to me either

Ok there appears to be loads of them but this one's in Wiltshire, just off Salisbury Plain

Original view, really not sure which village it is though. None of the nearby village names have rung any bells in terms of battles/birthplaces/etc.

Edit: there appears to be something called "the battle of Edington" so presumably it's Edington

Yes, the stone is the monument to the Battle of Edington:

Edit: The Battle of Edington, according to wikipedia, is where the army of Alfred the Great defeated The Great Heathen Army led by the Dane Guthrum.

Oh I don't doubt you but history has never been my specialist subject so I barely remember any French battles never mind any (*checks who Alfred the Great is*) Saxon stuff

Have a bunch of parked cars next:

Interesting street light. Cars with no number plates at the front. I got nothing else

North American style rear number plates (not restricted to North America)

I am getting a strong Historic Preservation District vibe.

The complete absence of SUVs and pickups is intriguing.

The obelisk strikes me as Latin American in design

What is that thing on the left? A stage? A tunnel?

It looks to me like the type of stage we call a "Bandshell", but is unusually deep for its width

You're thinking roughly along the right lines. Another two views, this time we've moved to the front of the obelisk (which is what attracted me there but I don't think it's particularly famous so don't expect a big reveal with this one):

Ah, I had just concluded it must be Puerto Rico based on the fact that Puma petrol doesn't exist in the USA but dies in PR, and there is a highway 123 in Puerto Rico too
