Where in the US do you come from (or sound as though you do)?

They say opposites attract. Mrs. S did this quiz then sent it to me: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-quiz-map.html

Hers - our three most matched cities couldn’t be much further apart:

I clearly sound like Mrs Sits - my three towns were New York, Providence and Yonkers.

Mine were New York, Honolulu and Yonkers.

Is Yonkers nice? Such a strange name.

I got New York, Yonkers and Jersey City.

Maybe the quiz is sponsored by the Yonkers Tourist Board. "Nobody laughs at your accent in Yonkers."

Be interesting to know where Femme Folle and other real Americans get.

Jersey, Miami / Hialeah and Honolulu. Well I was raised by the coast so I suppose that explains it. None of the places I would want to visit,

Yonkers / Jersey City / Providence for me. Some of the given answers were baffling, particularly those about what it is called when it rains when the sun is shining.

Yeah there were a few "I have no word for this" answers.

I wonder if Honolulu is popping up alongside New England and upstate New York for the Brits (it did for me, too) because it used to be British. It has a Union Jack on the state flag, doesn't it?

                                Precisely the same for me.

Is there one of these for the UK, I wonder? [edit: yes! https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...lect-quiz.html ]
[edit 2: it thinks I'm from Portsmouth. I've lived in Hertfordshire and Devon, so... hmmm.]

                                        Yonkers/Jersey City/Newark.

I'm guessing we're almost all getting this because that area has retained an accent and dialect words slightly more similar to UK ones than the rest of the US does?

I noticed it was the only area lighting up brightly for 'mischief night'

                                                Baltimore, Yonkers, Jersey City.

Those cities do not do full justice to what the map tells me:

                                                accent_map.png

For some reason, the quiz refused to load in Firefox, but did just fine in Chrome on the same machine.

I got Honolulu alongside LA and San Fran. The New England states came up as the least compatible.
