Stupid 5 because my stupid brain ignored a letter I got in the very first row. Urgh.

Equally frustrating 5 for me too.

I mean, I've won the hole, but I feel like I've wasted a three here.

I'm talking myself into the yips again, aren't I?

Back to the old routine of par for me, so San Bernardhinault that's a second hole all-square!

Forget McIlroy-Spieth-Woods, the real marquee grouping is Reality Checkpoint and Balderdasha in the clash of the 100%-ers. When Balders' score is in we're done for the day.

Bah, the Match P grouping of the 0%-ers is where the real drama is at. Thrill! at the sight of two players congenitally unable to win a hole attempting to make it around as the least worst player. Gasp! as they fail to do even that and end up deadlocked together in a potentially endless series of stalemates.

Match V is right alongside as a Keystone Kops / It's-A-Knockout-slippery-surface-in-inflatable outfits farrago.

                            What next?

Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't fully registered that I'm playing every day at the moment.

As it is, this is my first ever Wordle fail. Had three letters in the right place after the second guess and just could not find the rest. Strangely enough, the answer was a word that my daughter has occasionally suggested as a starting word.

Sympathies if you'd rather have your name in the Sue Gray report than beside today's score. 14 players found par as elusive as the starting-point on a roll of Sellotape, and the score average (taking the convention of scoring a non-completion as 7) was a Wes Cravenesque 4.79. It should be some consolation to the self-styled can't-win-won't-win pairing of Various Artist and San Bernardhinault that theirs was one of only two bogey-free matches today.

Solution to yesterday's crossword clue: Crumbled in golf on series of holes (6)
(Highlight to reveal) GROUND (crumbled = definition, golf = G in phonetic alphabet, series of holes = ROUND)

Briefly thought about going for it on guess three but didn't have quite enough info, so played my third info-gathering guess instead. Then on guess four, with one green and three yellow letters to get into position, I managed to make a guess that placed one of those letters in a spot I already knew it definitely didn't go. Dead clever, me. Anyway, Simon G, you've got 5 to beat.
