The feeling has returned to Balderdasha's finger after thirty-six gruelling holes. Etienne is itching to create the innocuously-titled QuarterlySales2.xls to furnish a distraction from proper work. Who's up for some matchplay Pooh-sti-... Wordle?
This is a reined-in version of the original proposal (though I still fancy a bash at the full works someday); this way we should be all wrapped up in around a month. For now I'll assume the mechanics of matchplay Wordle are understood, or else you can refer to the OP of the previous tournament thread.
Our adaptation of the Ryder Cup format will comprise three rounds of nine-hole matches, viz.:
Round 1: Fourballs / Foursomes
Round 2: Fourballs / Foursomes
Round 3: Singles
In fourballs, team-mates play in pairs. Each player plays every hole, and the better score is counted for that team. Here are a couple of illustrative examples:
In foursomes, each team-mate plays alternate holes, so every hole is contested one-on-one. There will be a pre-determined order:
Hole 1 A1 v B1
Hole 2 A2 v B2
Hole 3 A1 v B2
Hole 4 A2 v B1
Hole 5 A1 v B1
...etc
