In the school for autistic children that I work in, we actually have a lesson called 'co-operative games' (which I keep mistakenly calling 'competitive games'). It is designed to get them to socialise better, take turns, work co-operatively etc. Mainly it is chess, 21/pontoon, Uno, Monopoly or Snakes and Ladders but I have used it to introduce them to 'Shut the box' which I am fairly sure is my favourite board - I think - game.

Kids have been told they can bring a game in for the last day of term. I'm going to suggest to the lad he takes his Ravensburger Grand Prix game.
