    The days in between

Tail ends of tournaments when there are only a couple of games left and days without football are the worst, aren't they? Just when you've gotten into the pattern of flicking the telly on to watch it of an evening there's nothing for 3 days! Gah.

I was just going to suggest that.

      What a tragedy.

The obvious is confirmed - Ismaili's body found in the lake (204m down!). The terrible thing is her family will probably never know what on earth went wrong.

Not to go CSI, but fresh water lakes are plain weird. No salt, so no buoyancy. Different water pressures, temperatures, and all of that. Add the heat wave in Europe and having a cramp at the wrong time and a wrong gasp of air and that’s that.

There is a reservoir in New Jersey - Round Valley - that was once a valley that was intentionally flooded. It is over 55 metres deep complete with a ghost town at the bottom. Bodies go missing there for decades, then are sometimes found by divers 30-40 years later in a perfectly preserved state.

Is it legal to dive into that lake? Are warnings given to the boat renters?

Heart goes out to the teammate.

                Lake Como?

Hundreds of thousands of people do it every year. I've done it (not off a boat).

Cold Water Shock is a bit of a thing. The RNLI launched a safety campaign a couple of years ago which is worthwhile highlighting in the wake of this tragedy: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-40046902
