Oh no. They're the contrarian left. Or so they would have you believe. Lots of chat about brexit being a democratic uprising against neo liberalism.

Lots of stuff opposed to 'identity politics', the odd article by julie bindel, paul embery, julie burchill, and a bunch of snide cunts who specialise in articles that sound reasonable, up until the point where they stick the knife in. In the name of the interests of the authentic working class. And if you're not paying attention you won't see the knife.

I got sent this, and having pointed out to never trust someone who uses the term neo liberal rather than saying what they mean, and that lexiters are the agents of Farage, I went down the Unherd rabbit hole. The first thing that I found myself wondering is are they taking money from the Kochs because they have a terrible bang of the RCP and spiked off them.

I particularly like the idea that the current Irish opposition aren't challenging the neoliberal consensus, with its varying hues of far to centre left - indeed, the very problem is that consensus between Boyd Barrett, Eoin O'Broin, Róisín Shortall and Alan Kelly on how to challenge it is completely impossible.

You need a consensus on what it is, before you can have a consensus on what you are against. By not defining what it is, you allow it to become the big bad, and it enables you to start anger farming. All of those sentences above make exactly as much sense if you replace neoliberal consensus with "The bad thing". If you are angry with something it gets blamed on the nebulous bad thing, and instead of taking steps to deal with it, the whole thing snowballs. It seems to me to primarily be used as a weapon against not the right, but against social democratic parties, who are described as thralls to the neoliberal consensus. If you see this phrase being used, without specifying clearly what it means, you are likely dealing with a grifter peddling angerfarming utopian bollocks, or a mark. It's one or the other.

Unherd is, as far as I can tell, impossible to differentiate from Spiked/Quillette etc.

              It's a good name though.

Meh, it's slick alright, but it's also an appeal to narcissism and may as well be "don't be one of the sheeple"

                  Different origin stories, though

                  Spiked is the Furedi mob

Unherd is a LibDem hedgie's "passion project"

Quilette is libertarian/"intellectual dark web" types

Agreed that it can be difficult to distinguish their output

Meanwhile, the perennial "contrarian in search of an argument" article that appears in certain sections of the Irish media:

Christ above. David McRedmond's daughter is a tory, who could possibly have guessed?

Something missing from that article, which undermines it quite a bit is that we're quite happy for Scotland, Wales, and in most cases, even Northern Ireland to do well. It's just the english football team we're not exactly keen on.

Another England=U.K. piece that's depressingly common in the Irish media. Even rte can conflate the bullshit Johnson is unleashing with "Freedom Day" as applying all over Britain.

Well that's just something for scotland and wales to deal with. They know what to do.

Mrs H did supervision with a social work student on her team today, a 46 year old black woman. She's not slept properly since Sunday, she didn't want to go into work on Monday but forced herself to. She couldn't bring herself to go into Greggs though as she does every other morning. Her dominant emotions are shame and fear, shame for being black, for being a black woman living in England, for being born in the skin she was born in; fear for herself and for her 2 children because she's seen the posts on social media that assign prizes of increasing value for increasingly violent acts against black people.

But lets talk about how footballers can show their opposition to racism without offending racists eh?

                            This fucking country.

Sorry to hear about your wife’s colleague AH - please do let them know that much as some politicians and their allies would like to make us believe otherwise the racists are a minority in this country

They have been shamed and I hope your friend feels supported by the brilliant articulacy of young black men and the outpourings of solidarity amd love they have received.

You'd have to wonder how such a fine young man fell in with such a bad lot like Arsenal! He was my favourite ever arsenal player before the tournament. And that's not a long list. Indeed I may have had to invent the list for him.

Red Issue aren't racist. Zar, who was kicked out of Red Issue in 1995 has had some awful opinions on migrants on Twitter, but I'd be interested to see any racist posts or articles from Red Issue itself.

Their implication Rashford is a dupe of the Jay-Z industrial complex is really off as well.

Yes I don't really understand the logic in those tweets. The graffiti on the mural was a false flag to distract from something else?

I think they're asking why it was reported as racist, and who reported it. It's not an attack on Rashford but Kelly Hogarth, who has recently left Roc Nation and appears to be going independent.

I guess they're questioning image manipulation.
