Chiellini I'd agree with, and I loved his laughing and joking and generally being a great mate to be with at the coin tosses; he nearly put a clearly startled Jordi Alba into a head lock before the semi. Bonucci would play the silent dead-eyed partner; just muttering the occasional violent phrase if and when necessary

Some right wing comedian tweeted some racist abuse last night and now is having his entire tour cancelled venue by venue as people catch up with what he said. He's also deleted his twitter account, and presumably now will be complaining about being cancelled

Can't remember his name off hand, but was he the one who supported Brexit, and claimed right-wing comedians weren't getting an airing on TV?

Why try and remember any of their names?

No reason, only he was the most prominent of their ilk - Geoff Northcott, after a struggle.

Norcott. Shamingly, he's a Wimbledon fan, hence his name sticking in my head.

Andrew Lawrence. Northcott is a bit of a bore but nowhere near Lawrence's level of racist/sexist Edgelordery.

Not seen anyone post this, instead of dogwhistling she'd have been better off stopping her husband committing sexual assaults.

I find it somewhat interesting that the she was ratted out by the Fox News wannabees at GB News. She must be special.

If the word "any" appears in it, it's not an apology.

On the "It's coming to Rome" thing, Italian regionalism doesn't really enter into it.

Skewering the perceived arrogance of the original is the main impetus behind it, but there is also a very well established tradition of Italy bringing major trophies to Rome for more or less immediate celebrations with the President, Prime Minister, etc, followed by a major public event (usually in the Circus Maximus).

Indeed, they arrived at Fiumicino early this morning and are staying at the Parco di Principe on the edge of the Villa Borghese before making the rounds.

Indeed, I meant to use scare quotes

I move to award the Ray de Galles the AEB Bravery in Penalty Kick Subversion Award, colloquially known as the "Purple Hart".

Particular recognition is given to the great risks taken in infiltrating hostile territory.

                                All who agree say "Aye".

Hopefully there is someone to helpfully remind them "Memento mori"

Today at work nobody mentioned the football, not one member of staff nor one student. And all those cars with flags have disappeared off the roads.

I tell a lie, one Turkish Cypriot member of staff mentioned the football to me. We laughed.

However, outside England, people hear something rather different. “To many around the world, especially those still experiencing a post-colonial legacy,” writes Hurley, “the England football team is a symbol of [the British] state. Unsurprisingly, some people aren’t that fond of England when it makes an appearance on the world stage. When England then starts going on about taking something back to its rightful place…well, you can see how that might cause a problem or two.”

                                                    Some of this falls wide of the mark but it's entertaining nonetheless. It's particularly good on that arrogant bore Rio Ferdinand who has never added a second of insight in to any game he's worked on ;
