    WAL-ITA, or the SUI-TUR option

I haven't got to do a thread title yet, and you have to get in early to beat Rogin.
A draw in the Italy v Wales tie will see them qualifying in first and second place, whilst neither team in the other tie can afford to take just a point. Be interesting to see whether Italy and Wales pull their punches à la Gijon 82.

I'll be watching the Wales game (unsurprisingly). Wales are free to go and play. Italy will want to win. Nailed on for a nil-nil.

Turkey haven't shown any signs of being able to get a point in this tournament. Comfortably the worst side (although Poland could get even worse, I'd guess).

Props to Sean of the Shed for the title and remembering to do the double header thread.

Is there a pun in the title I'm not getting?

SUI-TUR (sweeter) option. That's as good as it gets, I'm afraid.

Ah OK, didn't get that. WAL-ITA isn't a pun then?

Worried about this now.given the amount of draws in the other groups - I'm not sure if four points and below zero goal difference will be good enough so we're going to have to hold off Italy or hope that Turkey do OK against Switzerland.

At least Wales don't have to dress up as Australia for this game, though they might have to for a last 16 game against Russia or Denmark.

3rd place in Belgium's group will probably have 3 points while in England's I'd say 2 is the most likely

I'm wondering if they might anyway, given the dark v light requirement and given that they won in that kit last time. It would give the game a nice East Anglian derby vibe, and the yellow and green team always wins that.

That change strip against Turkey looked exactly like Australia's regularly gold and green kit.

It looks awful and I shall boycott the Wales game in protest.

More honestly, the network here is only showing Turkey-Switzerland (for free). I don't mind too much because at least they'll both have to go for it. Wales (and Italy) will be around for a while yet.

I assume this afternoon we get Wales on ITV1 and Turkey on the beeb? Or are they going to attempt one of those "cut between both games" jobs that ITV always fuck up and results in us missing a goal, or us being told that someone's scored in the other game when they haven't, something that VAR delays are only going to exacerbate?

Spinning these deciding games out over 4 days instead of condensing them into 3 is a little annoying.

Yes, fair enough. It's perhaps forced by the travel imposed by the multinational hosting.

I've been crunching some numbers, and I believe that a single goal loss for Wales would still mathematically guarantee qualification, as groups C and E cannot have a third place team with four points AND a positive goal difference.

My full calculations for how third places could fall are below, feel free to tell me if I've made a mistake! (edit: Note that I've presumed there won't be any wins by more than four goals, to stop the GD ranges going infinite)

A single goal defeat for Wales would also require Switzerland to win by at least four goals to take second place.

As Sean notes in the OP, there's no real incentive for Italy nor Wales to exert much effort here.

True but I generally get the feeling that Wales are looking to enjoy the match this afternoon which could mean them taking the game to Italy bit more, Italy won’t want to lose put they know the pressure is off so they hardly gonna be throwing everything at Wales
