The T-shirt I brought back from Kiev has got "Ukraine Free Forever" written on it. I assume I'm best not to wear that in St Petersburg if I ever get there.

I've gone from not giving a toss about Ukraine's success or otherwise in this competition to wanting them to do well

The organisers will be hoping that both teams don't do too well, a quarter final between the two could be tense.

Let's hope they're both as rubbish as in 2016...

                  This is Shukeyvich's Wikipedia entry

Seems indisputable that a) he was a Nazi and b) he has a Stadium named after him

                    The slogan's wiki

                    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glory_to_Ukraine

paints It in a slightly less unsavoury light, and I'm happy enough to use it in this context, which is "fuck you Russia".
But it is a minefield getting involved in Eastern European cheerleading slogans, they are pretty much guaranteed to have been used by some bad bastards in their time.
As for Shukeyvich, my wife's family came from an area of Poland that was ideally located to be brutalised by German or Russian forces, enthusiastically aided by Polish and Ukrainian collaborators. It was absolute carnage, and there weren't many good guys. Shukyevich was undoubtedly a murderous fascist, but sadly he wasn't the worst of them knocking about at the time.
