    Euro Refs

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/7329350.stm

It might solve some problems but it would create others. If they had had a typical Spanish ref the last time I saw Blackburn play they would have finished with about 8 left on the pitch.

This cannot happen soon enough in the SPL.

This has been kicked around periodically here in Italy, most seriously in the wake of Calciopoli (when Serie A lost close to ten of its most experienced referees), but has never been implemented.

It is worth pointing out that it has now become standard operating practice to use European referees in Cup Finals and major derbies in the Mahgreb and Egypt (like Al Alhy-Zamalek, which draws 100,000 people).

An Egyptian referee whose name escapes me was in charge of a game or two at the finals of Euro 2000.

Pah! What next? Foreign fans?... Oh.

To add to the list, there was a North Korean ref in the African Nations Cup and a couple of other Asian refs as well.
