Glad to see Grimsby recovering, though obviously I hope that won't stretch as far as the imminent derby.

Very feisty second half comeback from Lincoln at Cambridge yesterday after a rotten game at Crewe. I have to say that we are not six points better than anyone in this division - there have been very few games we've dominated, and even last week's home victory over Newport was touch and go. There's not much football played in this division, and although the Cambridge game was exciting it was typically robust and (especially from Lincoln) dominated by long balls out the back to the big lads up front. In short, everyone in this league seems to be more or less equally good, or equally shit depending on how you like your football.

Bit worried by the return of Christian Doidge to FGR, after his farcical time at Bolton Wanderers (story here https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46780447). He's far too good for League 2, and no doubt will score against City as he always does. Suspect FGR will grab a play off place if he finds his form.

In further related news, Forest Green are selling these t-shirts, with proceeds going to the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust, in response to Ken Anderson, the BWFC chairman. https://forest-green-rovers.myshopif.../no-ken-do-tee - this batch apparently sold out according to Dale Vince.

Sky clearly don't have anything better to do on the 26th January, so they're now broadcasting Bury v City, with the kick off moved to 5.30. Pain in the bloody arse, i'm gonna have to watch it now.

Another good win for Macc today against a resurgent Oldham. Just three defeats in eleven (if I've done my sums right) under Campbell and now breathing down the neck of third bottom Morecambe. He's doing well and I'm pleased for him.

YAAAAARRSSS. Clean sheet and win. Shame about the Scabs and their constant ability to grab late winners, as well as Bury turning it round. At least MK lost again. Tough game away at Yeovil on Tuesday now.

Another win after coming from behind for Bury. Second versus top next Saturday, with book launch from 3pm until 5pm with my heroes from my teenage years.

In the end a comfortable win away to Yeovil for the Imps, with Danny Rowe scoring twice on his first start since returning to City. Sounded like a routine victory, with Bostwick moved into midfield as Shackell came back into defence. Would be satisfied with a point away to Bury on Saturday, but delighted that we've kept two successive clean sheets.

Oh well. I predicted (although maybe on twitter rather than here) that January would truthfully show where we are and that is mid-table mediocrity. So far we have nil point from January having played Mansfield, Macclesfield, Lincoln, FGR and we have MK Dons to come on Saturday when I expect more of the same. It's a shame as we made real progress in December but aside from the quality of the opposition we have been hit badly by injuries, suspensions and players coming and going (two arrivals from Sweden have been thrown straight in due to the staff shortage and neether have done any pre-season or played for a while.

Last night at the New Lawn was freezing. The coldest I have been for a long time at a game. The little pools of water that form on the top of crush barriers were frozen before kick off. The pitch was clearly freezing over long before full time too. Our heads dropped after the first goal and FGR - who played excellent football - cruised from there on in.

How Toffolo got away with a yellow v Yeovil for that challenge is beyond me. Good result for us but poor officiating.

Very entertaining game at Gigg Lane last night between Bury and Lincoln. Fortunately able to catch it on Now TV. Three times City were in front and three times Bury pegged them back. Disappointed with two of the goals we conceded, and we looked worse off when Rowe was substituted. Losing Cian Bolger at halt time to injury wasn't ideal, but thought we came out second half looking bright again. Rowe and Akinde seem to link up well, but we miss a natural wide man on the left (I hope Andrade's suspension has done him some good, he's not been the same since his injury). Despite conceding three, Shackell was a rock at the back. Bury very good going forward and making intelligent runs across the penalty area - hopefully they can go up along with us. City looked a bit leggy in the last 15 minutes and disappointingly they retreated back towards their own goal. Pretty pleased with a point in the end, but equally tough away games to come.

Mentioned by Geronto on the WTF thread, Notts County owner 'Big Al' Hardy has accidentally tweeted a photo of Little Al, apologised, announced he is leaving Twitter and has now announced he's putting the club up for sale. I'd quite like our owner to put the club up for sale but can happily live without him taking the same route to it happening.

Cue a bunch of Lincoln fans buying inflatable penises for the game at Meadow Lane next Saturday.

Hardy has to stay. He is the patron saint of lower league chairmen, with "ambition" and zero self-awareness. We don't want these faceless consortiums and CEOs, we're the fourth division and we want tradition. "Eat my scrap metal, half-price Thursdays".

An excellent win v Franchise but it does seems like they are on the slide. Fingers crossed Newport's players will have one eye on their replay at the weekend. I'll be heading to this one on the Newport County supporters coach (weather permitting) so thanks to them for allowing me to come along.

Top tip: don't make the same kind of asides about Newport that you do on here about Lincoln. And if you do, enjoy thumbing a ride home.

Both Crewe and Port Vale games postponed today.
Vale chairman Smurthwaite won’t be too displeased given he’s contacted the police about the forthcoming fan demonstrations against him.

Doubtless you read Daniel Taylor's acerbic article profiling him last week.

                                              I never forget an impsult.

Speaking of which, a lot of neo-Imps (and there are a lot) seem to be getting very shirty when we don't win by several goals every week. But the club can be consoled that, should we start playing like Lincoln sides have traditionally played over the past quarter of a century or so, they'll all have fucked off back to Homebase on a Saturday afternoon.

The Stacey West blog is a great source of examples of this if you want a little chuckle. Not Gary himself but he highlights the best ones. I can't see past Lincoln winning the league even though you seem to be having a bit of a blip this last month.

I thought Newport were poor. We played excellent but Newport weren't as good as I'd expected them to be. I'd been looking at the table and, with wins in their games in hand they'd have been 8th, but on Saturday's showing they are nowhere near as good as the other teams I've seen at that end of the table. I suspect the FA Cup and new signings had an impact but they are the only team I've seen us play twice and I haven't been blown away either time by their quality.

Harry Clifton made a great impact again. He's allegedly only on £275 a week and, even though he's on a 3 year deal, I fear he could be snatched away if his form and improvement continues.

The Newport supporters were a very friendly bunch. I would recommend hitching a lift with them. There was another first timer on their coach too. He provided some mild amusement. When we were waiting for the bus (I hadn't at this point been revealed as a Grimsby fan) he asked the man next to me "who do you support?". The bemused gentleman said "Newport" to which the first timer - with a Newport scarf around his neck - replied "ohhh, I'm a Man Utd supporter. This is my first time with Newport away. How often do they stop for a fag break?" He brought a suitcase which, amongst other items, had some toilet roll and cans of Oranjeboom in it. I didn't see much of him after that until about midway through the first half when he was escorted out of the Upper Findus to the away end behind the goal.
