Yeah, I know, there's been a few of these sorts of posts lately, but as a supporter of a club that for the best part of the last 40 years has been subject to no end of unscrupulous owners, and has been on the verge of ceasing to exist on at least 3 separate occasions, for one glorious Saturday afternoon in May it was as if the dark days of the previous decade had been wiped from our collective memories, the dog days of bumming around the lower reaches of the football pyramid, sub-3,000 crowds, incompetent managers aplenty were all forgotten about at approximately 3:39pm a decade ago as Fraizer Campbell chipped the ball back to the edge of the Wembley penalty area for the 39 year old Dean Windass to leather in what is still the best goal scored at the new national stadium.
Of course, it's well argued that the Play Off win has led to the current situation, which is a whole different level of despair, and that the future of the club is as uncertain as it has ever been. But they can never take away the memories of that sunny day in North London, and it is such things that keep the likes of me, a stay away fan, contented and hopeful that we may see the sunshine again.
