    Lack of retention

Bayern wrapping up a sixth straight Bundesliga, Juve about to complete a seventh Scudetto and Celtic on a similar number in Scotland. Which league has had the most scattered distribution of champion sides (even if it's three or four sides taking the league off each other cyclically, a bit like Man United, Chelsea and Man City in the last decade)? No-one's ever won England's top flight more than three years running; are there any leagues where no-one's won more than two on the trot? I thought of Brazil, where there are a good dozen clubs who periodically win the title, but even there Santos won five on the trot in the 60s and Sao Paolo three running more recently.

Montenegro has only had an independent league for 12 seasons, but has seen six different clubs win the title. Only Sutjeska, in 2013 and 2014, have retained the title.

England actually had one of its longer runs of variety recently during the four year spell between 2013 and 2016 with four different winners (Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Leicester). Repeat winners were common in the early years of the Football League. Indeed Preston were both the first and second champions and Aston Villa won five crowns in seven years at the end of the 19th century. The last of those was also the start of the first run of four different winners in 1900-03 (Villa, Liverpool, Sunderland, Wednesday).

It's only gone beyond four seasons before a repeat winner comes up on a handful of occasions ever. The first was a run of five in 1909-13 (Newcastle, Villa, Man U, Blackburn, Sunderland). Then, for a while in the 50s-70s things got really varied, with 6 different clubs winning in '50-'55 (Portsmouth, Spurs, Man U, Arsenal, Wolves, Chelsea) and then the record churn of 7, which happened on three occasions with two of those heavily overlapping - '59-'65 (Wolves, Burnley, Spurs, Ipswich, Everton, Liverpool, Man U) and the overlapping time which was an 8 year run in '66-'73 bookended by two Liverpool titles, so can either be 7 from '66-'72 or 7 from '67-'73 (Liverpool, Man U, Man C, Leeds, Everton, Arsenal, Derby, Liverpool). That was the high point of variety, and unusual noisy in the general scheme.

From the mid-70s onwards it moved to a point where even three different winners in a row was rare, with the last set of four before the recent run being the change over from the Kenny Dalglish/George Graham to Alex Fergusson eras when the title went from Liverpool to Arsenal to Leeds to Man U ('90-'93).

Turkey regularly sees the big Istanbul three alternating titles between them, nobody else really gets a look in.

Trabzon won it a few times in the 70s and of course the mighty Bursaspor won it in 2010, but yes

Since the Romanian top flight became Liga I in 2006 the winners have been :
              CFR Cluj x3
              Steaua x3
              Dinamo
              Unirea Urziceni
              Otelul Galati
              Astra Giurgiu
              Viitorul Constanta

which seems fairly changeable. Mind you this year it will be either CFR or Steaua again
