    Appropriately named signings

York City have today completed the signing of a winger by the pleasing name of Wes York. There must be more examples of players and their teams sharing a name?

Not an exact name share, but it's still highly appropriate that Ross County have two players with the surname Dingwall.

FC United had a team that consisted of Platt, Battersby and Grimshaw - all Corrie characters.
Scott Holt, who shares a name with a local brewery.
The Baguley brothers, Chris Worsley, Scott Cheetham and Sam Ashton all have surnames that are parts of Manchester or Salford.
And they've just signed Dennis United of Manchester from Stockport.

Christian Fuchs plays for the Foxes. Nobody in the British media seems to have figured this one out yet.

Oh, and Graham Potter played for Stoke. He might even be managing them in a few weeks time...

We took Robin Gibson from Crewe's academy while we were still officially nicknamed The Robins.

Does this extend to managers? Thinking of Wolfgang Wolf at Wolfsburg.

As I suggested in the third of Kevin's previous links, the winner here can only be Xavi Andorrà, who played for both FC Andorra and the Andorra national side.

He lined up against England in both legs of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers and was booked at Wembley for a foul on Glen Johnson (probably).

Stephen Ireland, who deserves a bonus point for his reluctance to play for Ireland

Segar Bastard played for Upton Park and England and was...a referee.

Two Tory MPs were named Bastard:

Jiri Nemec spent the bulk of his career in the Bundesliga with Schalke. 'Nemec' translates to English as 'German'.

He was notoriously monosyllabic when interviewed. Is it true that "Nemec"means "Doesn't talk" in Czech?

He was just taking the taciturn nature of his presumptive ancestors seriously.
