Sadly the Macclesfield fan I know lost his dad this morning. Last weekend he was very excited. Today, not so much

Fair play, it can be tough getting out of the Championship at the first attempt but they've managed to do it.

It's been a tough few years, but with Ellis Short finally gone, they're on their way back.

I’ve just read a tweet saying that Gainsborough Trinity (est 1873) have been relegated from the National North and that this is the first time they have been promoted or relegated, having changed leagues before only through reorganisations.

                                          Can this possibly be true?

Gainsborough were promoted and relegated to and from the Football League before World War I, but that was by election rather than automatic. Since leaving the League they have only changed the Division in reorganisations - e.g. Founder member of the Northern Premier League then staying in that till becoming a founder member of Conference North. I remember seeing in their trophy cabinet a plaque from the NPL recognising their continued membership in the top division from 1968 to 2004.

Gainsborough is also a cracking ground and a lovely day out for anyone who's never been.

Altrincham won the Northern Premier League yesterday. South Shields saw their promotion officially confirmed. Bromsgrove Sporting are up from the Midland League.

And while it's not an official Up or Down, the aforementioned Gosport Borough, after gaining 11 points all season, yesterday beat mid table Frome Town 7(Seven)-0, a result causing much raising of eyebrows, pursing of lips and muttering of insinuations I'm sure. Gosport have now overtaken relegation rivals Dunstable on goals scored (!), after the latter ground out a rare point against third bottom St Ives Town. The two play each other this thursday evening in what has to be considered the hottest ticket in Dunstable that thursday evening.
