I don't know if this is predominantly a Belgian coaching thing, because Eric Gerets and Michel Preud'homme also look like Brussels detectives of retirement age who are dead inside.

Also, Bearzot would smoke his pipe during games. There's a fantastic shot of him during the final in 1982 with his white blazer draped over his shoulders, sleeves rolled up, pipe in gob. It's the essence of late 70s, early 80s Italian cool. I'm sure he went to a Giorgio Moroder DJ set that night and pulled a 22 year old blonde.

Look, I'll start off with Werner Lorant poisoning himself, then Stumpy'll post a photo of his mate Augenthaler lighting up, then ursus will point out that Augenthaler never smoked during games because it was already banned by then, and then a row will break out about Augenthaler having a fag at a press conference in Wolfsburg and then, gradually, nobody will remember your Toppmöller slip-up.
