Something I've seen recently got me wondering... Just how much has coaching for youngsters first getting into the game really moved on in the past 20 years?
Certainly the rhetoric seems different, but when it comes down to it there still seems to be insufficient focus on skills compared to say, physical strength and too much focus on getting the result rather than things like teamwork. In fact the reality doesn't seem that far removed from my experience of many years back.I also witnessed all the worst clichés of touchline parents living vicariously through their kids.
Maybe it was just what I came across - in fact I hope it was as if it was representative of what's going on out there, but if it is still the case then it's seriously depressing.
