Like a one-man Sky Sports Executive Committee, I've decided to cut the Premier League in half (insert suitable emoticon here).
I've calculated as table comprising only head-to-head results among the current Top 10 sides. What is striking is just how poorly Manchester City have done against the top half sides. In their 14 games, they've collected 9 points (home wins against Southampton and Chelsea; away draws at Leicester, Man Utd, West Ham).
Conversely, West Ham have done very well against top-half sides, recording 7W 5D 3L. They are pipped to the top only on goals scored.
Obviously the table is slightly lopsided, because of unequal games played. I'll try to remember to update it periodically.
1. Leicester...............15....+6....26Pts
2. West Ham................15....+6....26
3. Man Utd.................16....+2....26
4. Spurs...................15....+9....22
5. Arsenal.................17.....0....22
6. So'ton..................16....+1....21
7. Liverpool...............16....+4....18
8. Stoke...................15....-7....18
9. Chelsea.................14....-4....14
10. Man City...............14...-12.....9
Quite intriguingly, the top 3 must still play one another. And Spurs has three "easier" games in hand (Southampton at home, Stoke and Chelsea away).
If we reduce the mini-league to a Top 6, we get
1. Spurs..........10.....+7.....15
2. Arsenal.........9.....+5.....15
3. West Ham........8......0.....12
4. Leicester.......8......0.....12
5. Man Utd.........8.....-3.....12
6. Man City........9.....-9......3
with West Ham leading on goals scored here.
