I saw a headline today about Jose Mourinho's "camp" being frustrated at Van Gaal being told his job was safe. So 'camp' meaning 'Jose Mourinho'.

I also like the idea of a camp Jose Mourinho.

Not to undermine your thread straight off SD, but could you explain how the the first example's used? Since one could be said to "gain purchase upon the rockface", for instance, as a way of indicating that one has grip/leverage there when climbing, is that not the same thing?

I think the OTF Football Dictionary may come in handy for finding some uniquely footballing 'interpretations' of words, or else may need updating if we think of some commentary epithets that haven't gone in there yet. I like the idea of adding "camp" – in the noun rather than adjectival sense, although the latter does indeed give a beguiling vision of Jose.

                Isn't that just 'Jose Mourinho'?

That is one of the meanings of purchase.
