He's entitled to be disappointed with that.

He's got to be disappointed with that, Clive.

Looks like we'll have to settle for a point each, Mr B.

I used to quite like Townsend when he was an all-action midfield dynamo for Ireland in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It's amazing how much a punditry career can skew your opinion of somebody.

I rated him quite highly at Villa. But now? Not for me.

What he needs to be doing is taking up a position in and around the job centre.

If anything, he's commentated on that too well.

TalkSpunk'll rescue him from his ITV limbo.
Provided of course he issues a come-and-get-me plea.

Of course, the boo-boys might have something to say about that.

                        TalkShite, you mean.

Collymore 'n' Townsend. The dream team you never dreamt of.

Better broadcasters'll punish decisions like that.

Slightly more seriously, isn't this indicative of ITV bailing out of the football bidding war.

I was wondering about this the other day. Will the whole house of cards collapse if broadcasters just decided not to bid against each other for TV rights.

Couldn't it have been Clive Tyldesley instead?

Townsend is an idiot, but he's never been offensively bad like Tyldesley has. I can tune out Townsend's bullshit quite easily, but there's no ignoring Clive's unbearably smug brand of effluent.

Mark Lawrenson. I liked him when he was a defender. I always assumed that, of that Liverpool team, it would be Phil Neal who turn into a twat-on-the-box.

There can't be many people under eighteen who know Alan Shearer as anything but 'that dim bald bloke on the football whose trousers are too tight".

ITV's first season of covering the Premier League. I can't be sure but I think it may have been phased out very early on.

Well, yes, obviously. But that is very unlikely to happen.
Football rights have a significant amount of value to TV companies, or more pertinently to TV companies who are also braodband providers. Sky is way up on Football, even after all the money they have spent on buying it up.
If no-one chose to bid against Sky next time and they became aware of this, they would be nearly in a position of printing money. Which would make them massively strong anfd therefore be a disaster for their rivals. Sky is completely interchangeable for BT/Virgin in the preceding sentence.
