If I understand the Dutch second tier correctly, then, nine teams are either promoted or go into promotion playoffs at the end. As 3 of the 20 teams can't go up anyway as they are reserve/youth sides, it means 9 out of 17 teams are in with a shout.

Is that the highest ratio of any league in the world?

That's pretty much it Rogin. The Jupiler league champion gets automatically promoted and then the four JL period title winners along with the next four best seeded teams in the JL all go in with the second and third bottom of the Eredivisie to play for the one Eredivisie place for the following season.

I have no idea if that is the highest ratio in the world but daresay it is up there.

Dutch professional gobshite/shit stirring/start a furious argument in an empty room expert news. Raymond Verheijen is back in the Eredivisie! Yes, he of the trolling tweets, mostly aimed at Manchester United, has agreed to work with Feyenoord from next season.

Of course, Ray being Ray, he couldn't resist a dig not only at the outgoing Fred Rutten but his predecessor Ronald Koeman.

I paraphrase slightly but in a nutshell- any idiot can see that Rutten's training methods led to Feyenoord's late season collapse (apparently) and Koeman's piss poor training regime meant that Feyenoord got off to a crap start two seasons ago. Never mind that Koeman achieved Feyenoord's best results and league placings in recent years- he didn't do what Verheijen thinks. And that is unforgivable.

I for one welcome Feyenoord's new training overlord. What could possibly go wrong?

The season's business came to an end this afternoon with NAC Breda falling down the same relegation trapdoor as Go Ahead Eagles. A 110th minute extra time goal for Roda JC saw them go up on away goals. NAC go down for the first time in 15 years whilst Roda go straight back up after being relegated last season.

In the other play off, the farmers beat the fishermen and Superboeren De Graafschap go back up after 3 years, beating Volendam 1-0 away and winning 1-0 on aggregate. I did mention it previously, but all of De Graafschap's squad are local boys, so the achievement is even more notable.

Vitesse grabbed the last Europa league spot beating Heerenveen 5-2 and 7-4 on aggregate.

That's your lot for another season in the lowlands. Perhaps next year, Eredivisie defenders will learn to defend, but where would the fun be in that?
