Why Dyche would take either job is beyond me. He said wait for the job that he should have had several times over the past five seasons, which is at Goodison Park.

Wearside awash with Alec Neil to Stoke rumours. Early press conference at SOL cancelled and rumours of permission to speak being granted. Sky and Talkshite are going with it.
A lack of transfer autonomy and 12 month rolling contract being his main grievance apparently. Hopefully he’s just after a better deal.

      Keane and Dyche linked already.

Something odd must be going on as Stoke, respectfully, is no upgrade on Sunderland.

This is the first time for a long time that we’re looking healthier than Stoke. Which obviously means we’ll mess it up.

Must confess my fear is someone soon will target McKenna.

i appreciate that paying off sacked managers is probably one of the biggest expenses at SAFC over the last few years, but this seems crackers to me. would be a shame to lose the first manager who seems to know what he's doing since [poyet? advocaat? subs fill in - ed.] in such circumstances.

should've given him a normal deal after the playoffs if you ask me.

Exactly my thoughts. He's done really well at Sunderland in a very short time and seems like a good fit. Stoke can probably offer a much higher wage and transfer budget but surely he'd prefer to stay at Sunderland with a few reassurances re the future?

Transfer autonomy, X3 his Sunderland wage, 50+ miles to home as opposed to 130+. It’s a bit of all three.

                    Tony Mowbray is the word.
Bournemouth tonking may have done the safe pair of hands theory the world of good. Let’s just get established in the top half of this division for a couple of years etc is the noise from the happy clappers. Of course that means your best players will be off, which many believe is the model the 25 yr old billionaire owners trust overseers are wanting to errrh oversee.

Heard yesterday John Askey was indeed approached about the Rochdale job, as strongly rumoured, but turned it down to stick with our 'project'.

Seems a bit harsh when you consider that after beating Villa on the opening day they played Man City and Liverpool away, and Arsenal at home.

That really is the shittiest type of sacking (Parker). Fine, tell him in May when you've got promoted "thanks, but we'll need somebody else for the Premier League". But August? Because you didn't bother checking the fixture list?

(edit: and reading more, he's really been sacked for his honesty in the post-match interview. Pathetic).

Yes, what tee rex said. Boards really don't like their head coaches pointing out that they haven't spent enough on signings, do they? Total idiots.

It's not even like it's the first time he's mentioned it in public. He's already spoken about how his squad a few weeks into pre-season was significantly weaker than the one that got them promoted.

Thing is it's not like Parker was unaware of what he had to work with. Saying you need to strengthen is on think but saying the squad you have is too weak and ill equipped to cope is going to demoralise an already deflated bunch of players that could really do with their manager trying to pick them up again. They're not going to be motivated to play for a manager who doesn't believe in them and the next step would inevitably have been losing the dressing room.

So ultimately he’s been dismissed for not choosing his words carefully enough after being shoved in front of the cameras after a crushing defeat.

Agree with this. Managers don't usually get sacked for one absolute walloping. I did a little reading this morning and none of the other managers who've lost matches by eight or nine goals - two of whom did it twice - have been sacked in the days afterwards.

But if you go straight out after the game and say 'we're just not up to it' you're likely to piss everyone off, and in an autocracy like a football club, that's only likely to end up going one way. I wouldn't be that surprised to find that there's more under the surface too, either. The Bournemouth supporters I know on Twitter don't seem particularly angry about it.

Tbh it was very likely he would get sacked at some point in the season. Not many promoted managers survive, particularly if their teams struggle.

The 7-0 was against AZ, wasn't it?

They're fourth in the Eredivisie with a 100% record from three games. Expect their entire team to be signed by Manchester United by close of business on Thursday.
