Those two are very comparable clubs to QPR. The reason why QPR are hindered from doing it isn't because their Footballing level isn't high enough, but because there are too many others just as capable of deep runs in Europe if they were to qualify knocking around in the same league structure as them.
I don't think QPR couldn't do it. But they're going to have to get out of the Championship first. That could take years. Rangers will be in Europe next season. And the season after. And the season after.

And he had Mick Beale as his head coach at both Rangers and Villa.

Look, Beale is a hell of good coach, I don't think there's much argument about that from anywhere. His issues lie in other areas.

I've calmed down somewhat now, and I promise I'm not going to keep banging on about the duplicitousness of Mick Beale, but I thought I'd share this comment from elsewhere:

I can't help in some weird way, feel fairly impressed with Beale's self-promotion. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it in football before.

A bloke with no playing career, who started by running a futsal school out of a church hall, managed just 22 professional games (not even half a season) with a win rate of 43% has managed to talk himself into a pretty huge job, whilst turning down a Premier League club in the process.

He's built a brand and reputation so big that the Rangers board have gone from modern icons like Steven Gerrard to Giovanni van Bronckhorst and now Mick bloody Beale.

I mean if all goes to pot in Glasgow, this guy needs to be giving seminars on self-promotion and branding. His active Instagram account, immaculately timed posts, the absolute wealth of interviews and podcasts he's done. It's widely accepted that he was the reason Rangers went unbeaten, he even 'rejected' Aston Villa out of respect, putting his name immediately in the post-mortem. He's a genius.

Maybe people in the game just know that he's really good?

I mean, do you think he got offered a Premier League job and the Rangers job in the space of a few weeks because he posts on Instagram?

The football world is a small one. Reputations get around.

He's worked at Chelsea, Liverpool, Sao Paulo, and Rangers. He's clearly not some absolute mug.

No one doubts he's a good coach, but his self-promotion skills may be even better.

Former Orient boss and current Chesterfield assistant Danny Webb has apparently been spotted around the York training ground today, so it seems it may well be him tasked with implementing the chairman's big vision.

EDIT: Seems the YCFC rumour spider has been crawling across the wrong Webb – it's actually DAVID who has been appointed (but not Danny's famous dad). Seems to have more experience in scouting and recruitment than coaching, so not quite sure how this is going to pan out. A lot of time spent in youth development it seems, which definitely fits with the chairman's future plans by the sounds of it.

Oh that’s all sounds suspiciously positive.

It’s going to take some work to get me excited about it all again. From the high of the play of final to the miserable nature of Askey’s sacking it’s left me with little energy to enjoy the football. It’s been a crap few weeks.

Charlton have just sacked their manager. Even though I literally read this news about 2 minutes ago, I've already forgotten what his name was

                      Ben Garner.

They didn't look too bad on Friday night, but they were toothless up front.

Just as well I read this. If I'd heard elsewhere that David Webb was managing York, I'd have assumed it was the greedy thieving lying ex-Brentford manager, and every time youplayed in the South you'd have seen a middle aged man staring at the away bench looking to see where the man who he wanted to shout "WANKER" at for 90 minutes was.

I know it's "No questions asked" and that sympathy for him on this board will be at a minimum but Liam Manning's journey at MK Dons from play-off semi finals to the dole in 6 months shows that if you're a Bright Young Coach and you lose most of your best players, you'd better make damn sure that your coaching can do enough to nail down mid-table at least or it counts for nothing.

He'll likely have another job soon though. Coaching turn-overs work both ways.

He's only 37 and has a good CV in youth coaching, credited with developing Declan Rice among others. He's not an ex-player grifting along. But obviously, a crass decision to coach at a franchise club.

Claudio is back at it again. He takes over at Cagliari, officially from 1st January.

Dean Smith has been sacked by Norwich after only three wins from the last thirteen games. The last minute defeat to 10 man Luton Town yesterday appeared to be the final nail in the coffin.

Ha! This is the thread I was looking for but settled on the “days in the job one”. I’d lose my balls if they weren’t in a bag.

Early, and somewhat predictable, favourites are Dyche, Wilder, Gerrard and Parker.

I doesn't matter who you appoint, if you sack them after less than a year.

Russel Martin played for them. Is Delia a known compo payer or a regular dole queue specialist?

Would be mildly amusing if Gerrard was appointed after Dean Smith at a second club.

I like Smith, but think it would be prudent at this point in his career to be selective about his next club rather than just jumping into the first job that becomes available again.

The Norwich job runs the risk of becoming a poison chalice it appears.
