My conspiracy theory on the Newcastle shirt is that the owners of the club are trying to break their contract with the sponsors so they can get their own company, the same as the sleeves, and whack the money up tenfold. It'll also look nice on the old FFP-o-meter.

The important thing to remember about that Melchester shirt is that the replicas that they sold had a badge (I think it was 'Rovers' in the shape of a football boot kicking a ball), the manufacturers logo (Gola) and a shirt sponsor (also Gola), all in black.

Not bad. It crossed my mind, also, that the owners would have zero qualms about fucking up their relationship with a gambling company.

Deep down, though, I am siding with this being common incompetence, another hangover of the decayed infrastructure Mike Ashley left us with: aside from making the shirts and that, Castore are - as I understand it - also responsible for running the club shop. Not that I'm the kind to go out and buy Joelinton oven gloves like, but the only thing we sell that isn't Castore branded are gift cards and a calendar. No wonder the commercial revenue was in the toilet.

Fielded an illegitimate player I imagine.

Having in mind Ray de Galles's and Kevin S's comments on the sponsor being an essential design element of a football shirt, you have to say that top really does look like just a bog-standard stripey t-shirt (or a Foot Locker employee uniform), so unpalatable as the commercialisation may be, I can kind of see why recipients of this might have been a little miffed.

I copied it from a tweet I saw and the majority of responses were how it looked much better without the sponsor.

A good point, my response to which would be a callous "more fool them", though I will admit I'm of one of them that think contemporary replica shirts in adult sizes should only be worn by people busy doing some actual sport (and in which example, you can find many better examples qua cost/benefit than blasting seventy-one quid on NUFC's latest effort).

Each to their own. Some shirts definitely can work or even look better sponsorless. But that one, for me, for some reason, does not.

                          Blurb from the official site...

It’s the kit EVERYONE is talking about – and now you can get your hands on one of the few famous Kingsley tops currently in existence.

All Partick Thistle supporters who have bought a 2022/23 season ticket ahead of our first competitive game of the season on July 9 will be entered into a free prize draw, with more than 1,300 Jags fans already automatically in the draw.

The six names successful in the random draw will each win one adult sized* Kingsley kit shirt, the first six people to own the unique, colourful top.

For those not successful in the draw, we’re delighted to confirm that Greaves Sports and O’Neills will produce a run of Kingsley kits, including children’s sizes, for sale later this year.

Good luck – competition closes July 9, winners announced July 11 and kits posted that week.

Never mind relegation, that's a liquidation kit

It's not the kit though, it was a hoax by the club.

Oh, so it's real but not the real kit, gotcha.

In that case I hope they go bust for making me look stupid, or at least showing me up as a skim-reader

I'd like it a lot more if we didn't have a blockchain-related sponsor and if the cuffs went all the way around.

                                            That said, definitely not horrible.

Has nobody complained about the badge and manufacturer's logo being reversed?

(And yes, I do like sponsored shirts. They are part of the design and it looks unfinished without one.)
They're most definitely not part of the design. Neither in concept, nor usually in colour. It's like having a saloon car with an advertisement plastered along the side.
