Ramsey/Burnley:
Guess that makes a Newcastle loan more likely then, since they can pay more (and since they havent set the heather alight with their signings so far- it's an enjoyable morning ritual checking on BBC football gossip to see who's turned them down today)

The Hollywood excess era continues with the signing of Callum McFadzean from Crewe.
This one actually makes a lick of sense however as we needed someone who can play left-back or left-sided centre-back.

Looks like Wimbledon are signing 31 year old Portsmouth left back Lee Brown who started at QPR but has played most of his career so far for Bristol Rovers.
It's a necessary signing (though not as desperately needed as a striker) as, despite the fact that The Dons have regularly played with two left backs either side of their back four this season, both of those players are relatively inexperienced and the position is something of a weakness in the squad.Last edited by Ray de Galles; 27-01-2022, 23:50.

The equally peripheral Mohamed Elneny (signed 2016) is now the longest serving member of the Arsenal squad (Although the loaned out Bellerin has been there since 2011).

After Villa lost Tuanzebe, they only had three CBs and their cover for Matty Cash at RB was, near as I can tell, only Ashley Young, so it's a move that makes sense for both parties.
I know a Burnley fan who's very conflicted about Weghorst, on one hand he's very big and has looked quite tidy at times, on the other hand, a known jab refusenik.

I presume he's eligible for tomorrow (what's the cut off now - 6pm on day prior to a game) ?
If so, I imagine he will go straight in to the starting XI.Last edited by Ray de Galles; 28-01-2022, 18:08.

We've just lost Jeando Fuchs, Cameroon international who we should never have got from Alaves, to Peterborough.
Apart from the humbling experience, for someone who has travelled Europe seeing us win, that we are less than Peterborough now, it was a bit galling to see how good he was early season, while he was in the shop window, compared to the recent run of games, not coincidentally when we were listless and losing.
Modren fitba, eh...?

Oxford rumoured to be signing Marcus Browne on a permanent move from Middlesbrough. He's had two previous successful loan spells at Oxford, but hasn't played for a year now thanks to an ACL injury, so must be a risk. Oxford specialise in these kinds of moves- get in a player "on the cheap" because of injuries. Often it backfires - hopefully this time it won't.
We've also offloaded a couple of fringe players. Winger Joel Cooper on loan to Port Vale, and striker Dan Agyei on a permanent to Crewe. The latter always seemed promising, but never really got many opportunities at Oxford, mainly thanks to Matty Taylor playing virtually every game in the only striking position. I think he could be a good signing for Crewe though.Last edited by Jimski; 29-01-2022, 09:09.

Timm Klose, deemed not quite good enough for Norwich City, has joined Bristol City on a free transfer until the end of the season.
Our first choice CB Nathan Baker is out for the foreseeable future and his replacement Zak Vyner has been unconvincing, so I can't see Klose making us any worse, and yet, this part on his wikipedia page is not filling me with confidence:

Well AdC, incisive analysis post-match here from Reading manager* Paunovic after QPR’s 4-0 dunking of the Biscuitmen:
We gave away easy goals. In the first half, in between the goals, I think we played well.
Before we conceded the first goal, we were on the front foot and had initiative.
When we play with two strikers, we do have much more presence in attack, but on the other side we are more vulnerable in defence.
I think they took advantage of that. We had a better performance in the second half, although overall not good enough."

I'm guessing he's lost the dressing room big time. His analysis is some serious magical thinking. Reading's fans are a seriously unhappy bunch. We scored early and often then, essentially, controlled play to protect the clean sheet. They began booing at half-time and didn't stop. Waiting on the touchline one of their subs looked at the away end and I thought he'd burst into tears and run back into the dressing room.
