Sutton Who? - Division Four 2021/22

    ...Sutton United, that's who.

Just bagging the title really, but also coincides with Carlisle finally announcing season ticket details, so it seems like time to look forward to a new season.

Oh, chapeau on the thread title.

What with them having to return their pitch to grass again it could be Sutton Oldfield.

While it's not unusual for two two clubs in close proximity to have both employ a player in different stages of their career, I'm enjoying Colchester's commitment to signing every veteran that Ipswich release this summer. They picked up Alan Judge (32, 83 Ipswich league apps) today, having previous added Cole Skuse (35/268), Luke Chambers (35/376) and Freddie Sears (31/203).

Former Ipswich stalwarts Tommy Smith (31/247) and Dean Gerken (36/104) are already there, as are two Tractor Boys of a lesser vintage, Tom Eastman (29/10) and Frank Nouble (29/56 - albeit he also signed today from Plymouth). Sears, Gerken and Nouble had all had previous stints at Colchester.

Total Ipswich league appearances for the four coming from Ipswich this summer: 930
Total for all former Ipswich players on their books: 1347

This is a great post. Exactly what I read OTF for.

Barrow seem to be trying to emulate that with ex Carlisle players, albeit with not as many appearances:

Connor Brown, aged 29 / 8 Carlisle appearances
            Patrick Brough, 25 / 40
            Mike Jones, 33 / 132
            Jamie Devitt 30 / 110
            Paul Farman, 32 / 42
            Offrande Zanzala, 23 / 22
            Mark Ellis, 32 / 60

Meanwhile Bradford have signed Abo Eisa after his release by Scunthorpe, to keep their ex-Iron contingent at 3 - he joins Niall Canavan and Levi Sutton, with Lee Novak having left and possibly returning to Scunny.

We have signed Alex Kenyon from Morecambe who looks like he can "do a job" at this level (although obviously not at Morecambe's new level).

Expectations are at late 1970s levels - hoping to get re-elected.

As the only club in the league (apparently) who don’t both to tell anyone who is released and who has been offered a new contract, we tend to find out who has left when they sign for someone else. Strangely, have still not even announced any friendlies either.
The returning Mellon still has a lot of signings to make, particularly attacking wise. We’ve kept Morris and Feeney, but we’d need a eight foot tall striker to get on the end of the crosses those two provided for most of last season.

Yeah, Tranmere are the only Football League club not to have a released list on the BBC collation, although several Premier League have either not bothered or released partial lists only covering under-23 players.

Forest Green v Sutton United doesn't seem like a 'proper' League fixture. And as for undefined v Crawley ...

It is... how long have Hartlepool had the hart on their badge? I thought they had something maritime/nautical.

Anyway, Scunthorpe v Swindon in six weeks and two days. Would have preferred to have been at home to one of the other shit teams, this looks like "demoralising 0-4 defeat" to me.

The current hart dates from 2017.

The animal featured on earlier badges going back many years, but the immediately preceding badge featured the ship's wheel that you remembered.

A second signing of the summer for Scunthorpe. Harry Davis (29, CB) signs following release from Morecambe, joining fellow ex-Shrimp Alex Kenyon.

Never heard of him, but apparently ex Crewe, St Mirren and G**msby. Welcome Harry. You've made a big mistake.

Exeter have offloaded the makeweight Pierce Sweeney to Swindon, and replaced him days later with an exciting new prospect in Pierce Sweeney from Swindon. I don't know if they've done a big shirt unveiling, or just dug out the old one. (Money problems at Swindon, as per usual).

This kind of thing happens occasionally, but I can't recall it happening for us.

Rate they're going, Swindon will be lucky to have four players, let alone score four goals.

Bristol Rovers meanwhile have signed an entire new squad, none of them looking particularly inspiring. The mood amongst fans can best be described as 'subdued' apart from the Church Of Joey who continue to sing the praises of the man with the second worst points per game of any permanent appointment in the club's history

Welcome to the board and thread GINO.

One of your uninspiring signings was our club captain last season - Nick Anderton. On his day and in a certain light he can look like a player, but then he'll misplace a back pass, stand on the ball, be hopelessly out of position or do something else that should be soundtracked by a swanee whistle. But knowing our luck, he'll turn into Beckenbauer now, not least when he plays against us.

Given that last summer we signed Gillingham's captain Max Ehmer who was voted as captain by our players and then proceeded to have a disastrous campaign in which he was publicly humiliated by Barton in the press and then returned to Priestfield (and Division Three) while we plunged into the Fourth, you'll have to forgive us not being terribly excited about signing other teams' captains!

Full disclosure: even if he does turn out to be Beckenbauer, I won't be there to see it, at least not until that horrible little bastard in charge has gone. Hence the username!

We had Ehmer on a brief loan, years back. He seemed solid enough at in what would turn out to be a relegation team (from the third tier).

Given that he has over 200 appearances at third tier level for Gills, many as captain, he would seem a decent enough player yeah. Rovers last season were a complete mess under all three managers but it was Barton who decided to go in the local press and destroy his captain by claiming he'd barely moved on from when he was a kid at QPR while JB was there. Regardless of poor performances, it was a seriously shoddy way to treat anybody and not something that would get the players playing for him - and they didn't as he took us from outside the relegation zone to rock bottom and relegated with three games left.

Gills had him back like a shot - you'd think that Steve Evans (arsehole that he is) would know a decent player at that level
