Footballers are living embodiments of the bias rich people have to their own massively inflated sense of agency in their lives, versus the role of dumb luck, fortune and the efforts of other people. But when you've risen over every fence that's been put in front of you, and seen friends fall by the wayside at every turn, you're doing to have a very crude darwinian view of the world. The fact that these people have since joined the realms of the super rich and rely on billionaires to stay there only compounds matters, but it isn't the driver. Essentially, they see socialism as weakness, and they abhor weakness in a manner that's almost phobic.
