Toronto appears to have signed a new third DP: all 5'2" of Yeferson Soteldo, of Santos. $6M US for 75% of his rights apparently.

The Giovinco comparisons basically make themselves.

Austin got their first win, but lost Ben Sweat and Ulises Segura to knee ligament injuries. And their season ticket wait list is up to 18K.

LAG signed their new winger's twin brother to a Los Dos deal.

After 1 game in the USL Championship, John Hackworth and Louisville agree to part ways. After 0 games in the USL Championship, Oakland Roots fired their coach after a winless preseason.

Oh, and San Diego Sockers won the indoor, again, over the Ontario Fury. And for next year, there are between 1 to 3 new indoor leagues being started up, one of which has claimed Memphis and Fayetteville so far, while another says it's resurrecting the Philadelphia Kixx and Chicago Sting.

TFC bring back Kemar Lawrence from Belgium and loan Liam Miller to Columbus.

CONCACAF futsal WCQ's are happening in Guatemala City, and the US won its group today. Canada is losing to Costa Rica right now, but they were already through to the quarters.

Sacramento is now likely to lose its NWSL expansion team to San Diego. They'd play at Torero Stadium, all 6000 seats of it.

Austin's stadium will be inaugurated by the USWNT June 16. A kinda sorta unofficial tournament was improvised between them, Portugal, Jamaica, and Nigeria. The rest of it is 2 doubleheaders in Houston.

Bayern now trust Dallas enough that they want to buy the kid sent over there to train/trial without his ever having played a MLS game.

Wondo has now tied Landon for total overall goals scored in MLS

Goodbye Columbus Crew, hello Columbus SC, with a logo that looks like a hipster carabiner. And Brian Straus' article on this whole exercise in SI is a must read.

Philly bought a Hungarian MF from Honved for 1.5M euro.

In WCQ's Canada will be "away" to Aruba in Bradenton, FL on June 5, then "home" to Suriname at the Red Stars stadium in Bridgeview.

All DC sports venues go full capacity June 11, Subaru Park in Chester goes full June 23 for the Union.

I don't think the single-entity structure is to blame for all of this new garbage. MLS was held by a much smaller group of people when it came up with Tampa Bay Mutiny, Columbus Crew and the Kansas City Wiz. But those didn't appeal to the Euro snobs so now we have a bunch of FCs and Uniteds that don't really mean anything.

I guess MLS is very keen to distance itself from minor league and arena football branding - River Sharx or whatever - but now they're trying too hard and have names that are neither interesting nor at all "authentic" in that they have no particular history. And Crew was a perfectly cromulent, unique name.

But even with those boring "traditional" names, I don't know why they keep picking logo designs that would look more at home on the letter head of a Connecticut consulting firm than a professional sports team.

I suppose the shift to tasteful "crests," wasn't just to mimic the English style, but to leave room for a big ugly sponsor logo. As you know, I'm against that and wish the club logo would dominate the front of the shirt as it does in North American hockey*, but that ship has sailed.

*I'm fond of UNAM's Puma, but they still clutter it up with a lot of sponsor stuff.

How could you leave the San Jose Clash and their scorpion logo out HP? At least that provided us with the supporter's group being called The Casbah, which is now a glorious anachronism.

The Clash was great, but it was replaced with an old NASL name that appears to have genuine support from a lot of supporters rather than a dull faux-Euro name. So it didn't fit the pattern I was trying to address.

But the current Quakes logo doesn't look corporate or like something designed by a focus group. It looks like it was made by a volunteer on MS paint in 1998 for a youth soccer league.

About a week ago, there was a lengthy Athletic article into the front office turmoil at Atlanta. Marcelo Bielsa was really interested in being the coach to build the team from scratch, so management flew to France to meet him. He went through all his plans in a presentation, and said that he his two asks were total control of building the roster, and to know their decision fairly quickly so he could have a job somewhere else if they didn't want him. Carlos Bocanegra has been their TD since before they started play, and his response was to...just never bother calling him back. Tata Martino also left in part due to having to deal with Bocanegra and playing staff issues.

Jeff Attinella ripped a knee tendon, out for the year. Portland has lost so many keepers to injury that they were able to sign El Paso's on a year long loan under an extreme hardship rule. Stefan Frei and Jordy Delem were injured in the game Wednesday, Frei out a few weeks at least, Delem did his ACL.

NWSL picked up Mastercard as a partner, and Crystal Dunn is now a brand ambassador for them.

Dejan Jakovic appears in Hamilton in the CPL, Taty Castellanos ends up re-signing for several years with NYCFC.

And all of the Orlando setup is almost completely sold to the Minnesota Vikings owners.

The soccer store at Disney Springs at WDW sells Beckham 23 Inter Miami jerseys. This amused me.

Washington Spirit's home opener Wednesday v Houston got moved to Houston. It was supposed to be at Loudoun's field/stadium in Virginia. Which isn't finished being built yet. And when the Spirit asked to move the game to Audi, DCU said no.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks opened their stadium Saturday, scored 65 seconds in, then gave up 3 to New Mexico.

Houston Dynamo's main shareholder is selling his bit for $400M to a New York real estate developer, and RSL has another interested buyer, they guy who owns Palace and some of the NJ Devils.

DeAndre Yedlin is buying into San Diego Loyal, LAG signed a midfielder from Troyes, Geoff Cameron has returned, to Cincinnati, and got turned into a traffic cone Saturday by a Montreal (?) attacker to score.

5 DP's, 3 underreported salaries, and they still finished 10th in the East. And now stripped of $2.2M of allocation money for the next two seasons as well.

Aberdeen is interested in Christian Ramirez of Houston.

Interesting they chose not to go for a points deduction, which would have been the automatic reaction almost everywhere else. I wonder what the rationale was?

I don't think they want to "distort" the table like that.

Since relegation isn't a threat and Miami is still going to be in their expansion honeymoon phase for a while, I don't think it would make much difference to the owners anyway.

If their cheating had helped them get into the playoffs or contend for anything, maybe the approach would be different. The other clubs would insist.

Draw for the futsal WC was today, and the US got Argentina, Iran, and Serbia. 0-3 awaits.

                                        Barnsley won't buy Daryl Dike.

MLS is now officially planning to launch their own 3rd division league next year. Why God why.

CBS continues the buying spree, picking up AFC competition rights for the next few years through 2024.

DC United, after an NFL guy buys in, are somehow valued at $710 million.

Quentin Westberg was interviewed by a French football magazine and went straight in on TFC, saying that he has no idea what's going on or how they're supposed to play.

Jermaine Jones is a new assistant coach at New Amsterdam FC in NISA.

MASL a/k/a most of what's left of indoor announced 3 new hires-Keith Tozer to be commissioner, Shep Messing as chairman, and JP Dellacamera as their media head.

Nations League semis tonight from Denver, final Sunday, with the added wrinkle that if the final is USA-Costa Rica...they play again on the 9th in a friendly in SLC, I think.

Miguel Ibarra returns from Mexico, to San Diego Loyal.

Hartford Athletic stomped RBNY2 7-0 at home tonight, with the 4th goal from just inside their own half.

CPL starts up June 26th, in Winnipeg.

The Utah Royals coach who was part of the purge for crappy behavior has turned up in Mexico, coaching another women's team.

And Trinidad and Tobago somehow managed to get shut out by a Bahamas team with no professional players in a scoreless draw, and they are bounced out of qualifying.
