How Many Different Sports Have Been Hosted by Football Stadia?

Can you name stadia in which football has shared with greyhound racing, speedway or show jumping, for example?

Tens of sports have been played at West Ham's ground

Central Park in Cowdenbeath hosts lower league football and stock car racing.
Shawfield used to host Clyde FC and greyhound racing.

Both Cologne and Hoffenheim have hosted the DEL winter game in their football stadiums during the Bundesliga christmas break. A temporary ice surface was set up on the pitch.

Didn't we have an "Other sports I have seen in football stadia" thread only a month or two ago?

Arena AufSchalke has done football, American football, ice hockey, boxing, several motor sport events and biathlon.

There was a cycling event a few years ago that finished in a football stadium in France wasn't there? Marseille?

The stage 20 time trial of the Tour de France, which started in the Stade Velodrome.

The whole Tour finished in the old Parc des Princes fo decades, and the Velodrome that host the finish of Paris-Roubaix also features football.

I went to a game at Varese once, and they had a velodrome style banked cycle track. Didn't look in great nick so I'm guessing it's not often in use.

                It's been redone recently

The use of velodromes as football grounds was quite common back in the day. This is Reims during their glory years

The Vuelta a Espana did a lap of the San Mames during the neutral roll out a couple of years back (because, you know, the Vuelta). One of the riders stopped at the penalty spot and mimed taking a kick.

Stamford Bridge has had loads. Greyhound racing, speedway, American football, cricket and baseball all spring to mind. Before being developed for football it was an athletics ground.

Rugby League way way back in the day (on the historic NZ All Golds tour), and also in the 80s Fulham RL played at least one game there (the night before a Challenge Cup final). RL will turn up a lot for grounds in England and Wales, our (collective) lot will play anywhere that will have them, not always successfully.

Have they? Beyond athletics (and now Football), what others have been in actual stadium as opposed to just nearby?

Rugby Union & League, Baseball and some kind of one-off Motorsport event that I can immediately think of.

Looking it up, none where. Just the Athletics in the Olympics and Paralympics, plus the opening and closing ceremonies of both games were in the Stadium itself. Lots of others were held on the wider Olympic Park, but all in other buildings. Since the games, the Olympic Stadium has continued to host Athletics, and Football of course, plus Rugby League, Rugby Union, Baseball and Motorsport. Which is more than many, but still not all that much.
                                    Beaten to the punch. Repeatedly.

It's not many more than the KC Stadium in Hull has hosted. Which is Rugby League, Football, Cricket and Squash. Yes, you did read that last one right - the Allam's have been the main sponsors of the British Open Squash for a number of years now, and have been holding the event in Hull. The first year of the sponsorship deal they tried to play it in the actual stadium, which didn't go so well - it turns out that Squash doesn't really work as an outdoor sport in Northern England. Cairo is more suitable for doing such things.

Squash has been exploring some exotic venues.

                                      Grand Central Terminal, for instance

I know football isn't the main purpose of the Millennium / Principality Stadium but it has hosted football, Union, League, cricket, rallying, speedway, boxing, eventing (fatally) and Monster Jam.

The Arena auf Schalke is up there

Biathlon has already been mentioned, but it has also hosted football, gridiron, boxing, darts, speedway, ice hockey, motorsport, team handball and the snowball fight world championships

Been there, done that* (Vanderbilt Hall of Grand Central, to be precise). As I think I might have mentioned previously...

                                            * - as in watched Squash there, rather than got to play it!

The pro courts are essentially flat-packs, and can be set up in any building with a sufficiently big floor area and high enough roof. Which does allow for some iconic locations. But also the KC Stadium Hull, and the Galleria Shopping Centre, which sits on top of a tunnel that takes the A1(M) through Hatfield. [I'm intrigued by who wrote that blog entry - I almost certainly know them!).

This definitely came up recently. You'd be quicker listing the sports that haven't been played at the old Wembley.

Cheers. Union as well, apparently (Middlesex V the All Blacks) and midget car racing, whatever the hell that is.

The 1994 Lacrosse World Cup, held at Gigg Lane that summer.

When you look at the state of the pitch before the 1994/95 season has even kicked off, it’s no wonder it looked like this in the 1995 Third Division play-offs after a full season of Bury games, a full season of Manchester United reserve games and a full season of Swinton Lions RLFC games.
