Filthy racist scum booing the knee

I'm sure it's been touched on elsewhere, and of course it's a world problem rather than a football problem, and all that. But still, there should be a thread on the filthy racist scum, at Millwall most obviously yesterday, booing the "taking the knee" gesture.

Excellent clear and straightforward response from Dion Dublin - who was at Millwall briefly - on BBC Final Score last night - if you're booing players' taking the knee, you're racist. It'll be easy to find them, so do it, and get them out.

Pretty shameful non-response from Millwall though, eh? Aren't we always told how much great work the club is doing to combat racism?

The lengths people will go to to excuse racist behaviour is quite astonishing at times, as well.

Millwall's response so far appears pathetic. The manager's response that "it's a difficult one" is abject. the club's Twitter feed, as far as I can see, turned a blind eye at the time and throughout the rest of the evening. props and solidarity to Mahlon Romeo who should not be expected to work in an environment where he there is racist abuse.

Doesn’t strike me as especially ‘difficult’ at all. Identify these people and ban them - if you’re booing a stand against racism then you might as well be making monkey noises, etc. Hardly rocket science.

Chelsea fans applauded the knee last night. Perhaps one or two of them had watched the Anton Ferdinand doc.

It's rather amusing to watch people across the social media wires trying to use Marxism as a justification for their actions. Who knew that Cold Blow Lane was a hotbed of critical Marxist theorems?

The Derby caretaker manager, Wayne Rooney, said: “No one condones that behaviour.”
Wrong, Wayne. A government minister not only condones but says we "should respect" that kind of behaviour. Take a bow, George Eustice. It's only 10am but you're already nailed-on for Fuckwit of the Day.

The club's match report yesterday is dogwhistle, whether they realise it or not. No mention of the booing. Instead, "roared on by 2000 fans... and what a sight it was" etc etc that kind of stuff. You'd think the club needs to come out with something today. Otherwise, they are allowing racism to fester.

And at Colchester as well apparently. I am unsurprised.

The Tories don’t even bother to disguise their racism now. Why would they? They certainly don’t get punished for it at election time.

Millwall have finally managed to come out with a statement saying nothing

                  Pathetic.

Just liquidate them already. They've done fuck all about neonazi supporters for years.

Brave move by Colin Kazim-Richards when he heard the booing.

Millwall's failure to make any kind of club statement speaks volumes. There is always the usual blather about what the club does for the community but you have to wonder what the fucking point is when they can't even support their own black players being booed by their own fans.
Millwall fans have been nasty horrible racist cunts for years and the club needs to own that and deal with it, and if they won't then the FA and/or EFL should be dealing with the club.

That's just pitiful. If they aren't seeking to ban the fans who booed at the ground yesterday then they aren't doing enough, and their lack of action will just confirm that they are condoning racist behaviour.

Were the fans allowed in yesterday chosen from season ticket holders or were there interlopers? Whatever, ban them, charge them, publicly name them.

something that's kinda interesting is the number of Millwall fans saying "oh we don't oppose like Kick It Out" which ought to say a lot about the value of Kick It Out in actually challenging racism.

(not more than Kick It Out's collab with the Home Office already does, mind)

Irrespective of the knee becoming sanitised and diluted through overuse, if you can’t figure out why people might call you racist for booing a symbolic protest in favour of racial equality or don’t have the critical analysis to think “Maybe I shouldn’t do this because people might misinterpret me as racist” then you’re either colossally thick, don’t care about anyone except yourself (which is still horrid) or are just flat out racist. There is no grey area here.

Kick it out is effectively the FA holding up a "CAREFUL NOW" placard. It's an empty gesture like the gambling industry's "When the fun stops, stop" slogan. It's basically Katie Hopkins in rainbow laces.

The frightening, though not surprising, thing is that this didn't just happen, it was organised.

The Millwall statement does not even say what happened. Or, say what measures will be taken to avoid it happening again. Abject.

Forgive my ignorance and misunderstanding of the statement but does he stand during every pre-match "taking the knee" or was this a one-off due to the booing?

I have no idea, but if he is prepared to do that whilst a crowd of racists in the stand are booing then he deserves all the kudos going.

I guess people don't want their politics politicised, do they? Matt Le Tissier didn't want to wear a BLM badge after he found out the politics behind the group, which he found out through a disingenuous campaign against BLM by the press. Lots of people still see them as Poppy burning, Churchill desecrating, radical Marxists, and that's kind of by design. There's two ways to take the sting out of any protest movement, criminalise it, and commodify it. Corporate hijacking of radical activism is really wank, and it seems to me like the football authorities are saying, yes you can protest, but only on our terms, when we say you can. They're basically clapping for the NHS for a few seconds every match. Perhaps if antiracism was taken seriously by football, Millwall fans wouldn't, or at least wouldn't be able to, boo what's essentially becoming a gesture that's designed to trumpet progress with any progress being made.

They are racist scum, but nobody’s going to be banned. There’s nothing wrong with what they did according to a government member. Millwall are going to do nothing to offend their core supporters, any black players will essentially be told to get on with it.

Calling them racist scum isn’t going to offend them, it’s a badge of honour. If you want to wind them up accuse them of being closet West Ham supporters.
