    With apologies for any hyperbole...

This evening Northern Ireland play their most important fixture ever, with another even more crucial to follow on Tuesday

Our wee women face Belarus then Faroes, both already beaten earlier in the series. Sadly the games will be behind closed doors at Seaview, Belfast. I'll dedicate the thread to my young cousins Naima and Zara who play for Crusaders FC u-12. Attagirl!

2 wins would qualify us for the play off ahead of the Belarusians and Wales

The Republic go out following a 1.3 defeat to Germany. Damage was done earlier in the group, a 94th minute equaliser at home to Greece and even more damaging was a 0.1 defeat away to Ukraine ,featuring an own goal and a missed Irish penalty.

All over in Belfast as the home side ease to 5-1. Wales lose out after comfortably beating the Belarusians 3-0

Congrats DG, horrible way for Wales to go out with an identical record to NI and a goal difference 12 better but those are the rules.

After the mens' team accidentally qualifying for Euro 2020, it's somewhat reassuring that one of our teams still knows how to Scotland.

Cheers Ray. I guess Wales will look back to conceding that last minute equaliser in the 2-2; but what got us there was hanging on for the whole second half in Belarus with 10 (wo)men

Spain, Finland and Austria confirm their places with Italy very likely to join them. Nice East-West mix in the play offs: NI, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine and Czechia

Real politik has its say in the play off draw. We're playing Ukraine as the original pairing them with Mother Russia was disallowed by UEFA

In the other ties, the Russians play Portugal and too ranked Switzerland meet Czechia

Eye-opening result for the Irish girls.

Furness got injured though by, erm, kicking the ball. Getting her fit again for the return game will be an issue.

Freakishly unlucky for Wor Lass (she's from Durham)

A worry is that the Duncairn Gardens flashpoint is only 2km from Seaview Stadium where the second leg is due

Rachel Furness has waded into the GB Olympic selection row (the squad includes 15 England players, a Welsh woman and 2 Scots). Furney moans that the coach didn't bother watching NI recently but I'm relieved that we don't have one token pickto patronise. If the tournament goes ahead (it shouldn't, says Tokyo opinion) I will convene a meeting of ABGB
