It would help if they had something along the lines of rugby - off you go, the medical team will decide and if you fail, that's your lot. Your replacement doesn't count as a sub for the purpose of numbers allowed on in the match.

When I look back at the state of some of the guys left on the pitch during rugby matches under the "I'm/you're fine, run it off" days, especially in the pro era before it was stopped and the impacts were much harder than the amateur days, I think there are some very nasty futures in store for too many players.

Christoph Kramer (I think) played on in the 2014 World Cup Final despite actually not knowing he was playing in the World Cup Final. I've see Michael Keane escorted off at Turf Moor in what looked like a completely bewildered state after playing on for a couple of minutes. And has anyone actually confirmed that Loris Karius was concussed in the 2018 Champions League Final?

Fair enough. And Chris Suttons comments show how much of a shitbag he is.

Yes, Kramer went to to the referee and asked him if the match was the world cup final.

Also from 2014: Pereira of Uruguay . Knocked out stone cold, medical staff wanted him off, but he overruled them.

I know it's better late than never, but now the doctors have the final say.

Although it's a different sport, I thought this was the best place for two truly depressing articles.

There's a Northampton player, Piers Francis, the poor bastard seems to get concussed the second he walks on the pitch. Quite why he is still playing is beyond me and I hope that this might get him to ask the question before any more damage is done.

More proof that football doesn't take concussion seriously, this time from Jan Vertonghen

[Centre back Vertonghen, who left Spurs for Benfica on a free transfer in August, was involved in a sickening collision with team mate Toby Alderweireld in the fixture against Ajax Amsterdam.

He had concussion symptoms for months, and was left fearing every coming together in training or a match.

“Lots of people don’t know it but I suffered a lot from that hit: dizziness and headaches,” he told Belgium’s Sporza TV on Tuesday.

“This is now the first time I tell about it. It affected me in total for nine months and that’s why I couldn’t bring on the field what I wanted to.

“I just didn’t know what to do. It was game after game and training after training. Every time there was a new impact. Then the lockdown came and I was able to rest for two months, after that it was a lot better.”

Vertonghen admits he felt compelled to keep on playing for the sake of his career, even though he knew it was affecting his performance.

“I had only one year of contract left, so I had to play. But when I played, I played badly. Not a lot of people knew about it, that was my own choice.”

Professionals in England will be limited to 10 'higher force' headers a week in training.

Sounds like something from Star Wars.

Good that this is finally being addressed, but - as Dawn Astle herself raises - how it can possibly be monitored, I'm not sure.

Joe Kinnear added to the list, although this appears to be more in the nature of a family announcement as it was first diagnosed in 2015 and he's in the late stages.

So what are the FA going to do about this?

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo admits he is ignoring FA guidance over heading

But asked if set-piece drills were more difficult to practice given the new guidance, Nuno revealed he is ignoring the recommendations, despite being concerned about dementia.

"Good question. That's why we have training sessions without anybody seeing us,” he said.

It's guidance, not rules. So - I think - they can't do anything.

They can say, loud and clear, that it's unacceptable, and that Spurs need to sort it out.

The FA has a load of things it can do without invoking formal disciplinary proceedings.

There was a segment on Radio 5 tonight. Seems only a matter of time.

Different sport but Ryan Jones going public with his diagnosis this week may well be the start of real changes in sport.
