I'd still say Zidane's in Berlin in 2006.

A Panenka? At 0-0? IN A WORLD CUP FINAL?

Pure, undiluted Buster Gonad that. All he was missing was the wheelbarrow.

I think we've covered this one before on here :

I mentioned this on the Euro 2020 qualifiers thread and it's crazy/genius :

Very clever, but has anyone (concerning OP) seen a slower successful penalty?

I have never seen that before and have watched it 5 or 6 times and it is incredible. I have a horrible feeling that it might be in a friendly and not a competitive match, am I wrong?

He hasn't scuffed that. He didn't follow through at all, which a scuff would have had. He has hit that precisely as he meant to. The arrogant so-and-so.

But, well, clearly the answer to the opening post is still Antonin Panenka.* Even Zidane trying a Panenka in a World Cup Final was at a less critical juncture; Panenka's was potentially (and as it happened actually) the decisive penalty in a shoot out in a major final, rather than ~10 minutes into the game.
                    * - hospitalised with COVID last week and was in a serious condition, though reports at the weekend were a little more hopeful. :-(

As for a slower successful penalty, the one in the opening post is about 1.5 seconds from kick to crossing the line. The Cruyff-Olsen one for Ajax against Helmond Sport takes close to four seconds to develop. And Cruyff's actual kick from he penalty mark highly likely wouldn't have traveled 12 yards in total if it had been allowed to come to a total stop.

Okay, it crossed the line but only just. (I mean, if you're going to save that kind of thing for your last-ever international and the biggest game of all, at least do it well.)

Zizou didn't exactly cover himself in glory that day.

Clever and ballsy indeed, but I imagine many keepers would at least have tried to spring back to stop it, and I daresay a fair few would have succeeded. OK he's on his knees, which is not an ideal starting position, but travelling as slowly as it was it did look reachable...

Has the referee blown the whistle to start the penalty at that point?

I think the fact that he came that close to fucking it up makes it even ballsier. Just my opinion, like.

Perhaps - you could certainly feel his doubt as he turned away to celebrate.
