    Like Father, Like Son

We've surely done this before, but off the back of Liam Delap's Man City debut last week I thought it'd be good to have a thread to catalogue the father-son cases in the current playing community (or, indeed, any father-daughter/mother-sons or daughters scenarios).

So, accepting I will definitely forget some, here are this season's Premier League footballers who had fathers that played professionally:

Harrison Ashby (b.2001, debuted 2020), West Ham, son of Barry Ashby (b.1970, played 1988-2006)
Jack Cork (b.1989, debuted 2006), Burnley, son of Alan Cork (b.1959, played 1977-1995)
Liam Delap (b.2003, debuted 2020), Manchester City, son of Rory Delap (b.1976, played 1994-2013)
Darnell Furlong (b.1995, debuted 2015), West Brom, son of Paul Furlong (b.1968, played 1986-2012)
Angus Gunn (b.1996, debuted 2017), Southampton, son of Bryan Gunn (b.1963, played 1982-1999)
Harvey Neville (b.2002, yet to make debut), Manchester United, son of Phil Neville (b.1977, played 1994-2013)
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (b.1993, debuted 2010), Liverpool, son of Mark Chamberlain (b.1961, played 1978-1998)
Kasper Schmeichel (b.1986, debuted 2006), Leicester, son of Peter Schmeichel (b.1963, played 1981-2003)
D'Margio Wright-Phillips (b.2001, yet to make debut), Manchester City, son of Shaun Wright-Phillips (b.1981, played 1999-2017)

I'll allow everyone else to offer some more for their clubs/the recesses of their brain. Watford have two in their under-23s - Max Statham (b.2000), recently signed from Spurs, son of Brian Statham (b.1969, played 1987-2005), and Henry Wise (b.2000, one sub appearance in the FA Cup), the baby held by Dennis Wise (b.1966, played 1985-2006) when he lifted the FA Cup in 2000.

    Hang on, Ian Wright's grandson?

Perhaps the most in-demand player in Serie A at the moment is Federico Chiesa, son of Enrico.

Some guy called Erling Braut Haaland seems to be making waves currently...

Luton currently have three, all of whom came through the same West Ham youth team.

Dan Potts (b.1994, debut 2012), son of Steve Potts
George Moncur (b. 1993, debut 2012), son of John Moncur
Elliot Lee (b. 1994, debut 2012), son of Rob Lee.

We also had Elliot's older brother Olly for a couple of seasons who is now at Hearts.

Harry Wright (b 1998; yet to make debut), Ipswich Town, son of Richard Wright (b 1977, played 1995-2012)
Drey Wright (b 1995, debut 2012), Hibernian, son of Jermaine Wright (b 1975, played 1994-2011)

Most of the progeny of our former players seem intent on pursuing a career as our third choice 'keeper. So we've had Connor (son of Stuart) Ripley who's now at Preston, and Aynsley (son of Stephen) Pears. Calum (son of Graham) Kavanagh is a striker with our under-18s, but I'm fully expecting him to pick up the goalkeeping gloves before long.

After his recent destruction of Norn Iron we've renamed the shipyard after him

Only one at Doncaster Rovers currently...

Liam Ravenhill (b 2002; yet to make his competitive debut), son of Ricky Ravenhill (b 1981, played 2002 onwards)

Incidentally, James Coppinger played alongside his dad for Rovers and could conceivably play alongside Liam too this season.

Going through our squad and looking the players up, we have Matty Blair who is the son of Andy Blair (played for Villa in 1982 Super Cup - I've never heard of him) andTom Sang (on loan from Cardiff) who's dad is Neil Sang, who apparently played 14 times for Torquay and is now an Agent.

The thing I know about Andy Blair is that he once scored a hat-trick of penalties.

This was back when penalties were relatively uncommon, of course.

Blair scored a hat trick of penalties for Wednesday against Luton in the Milk Cup in 1984, as every schoolboy used to kno. (Edit; bah, beaten to it by HO)

We've got Jordan Rhodes (son of Andy) and Josh Windass (son of Dean). In researching this I also discovered that all our academy players have pudding bowl haircuts.

George Hirst, currently on loan at Rotherham from Leicester, is the son of David Hirst. Prior to returning to Leicester, he spent a season on loan at OH Leuven, under the management of Nigel Pearson, whos son James was also on the books for Leicester before being sacked for gross misconduct without troubling the first team (on the pitch).

York recently signed Harry Bunn, son of double-hattrick-scoring Frankie, and also Kieran Kennedy, whose grandfather was a Busby Babe-era Manchester United fringe player. Also joining this close season was Jack Redshaw, whose father Ray played for Wigan.

In Scotland, Aberdeen’s Doug Considine was a member of Fergie’s title winning team in 1980. His son Andrew has played over 500 times for Aberdeen.

SWP was adopted, but at age 3, to which point the surprise is still valid.

Tommy Doyle (Manchester City) is son of Mike Doyle (Manchester City). Which is a nicer story than the Delap one (involving a fee from another Academy and all that typical cynical big club yooth hoovering).

Yeah, that's right. Which is confusing in itself, cos Pardoe and Doyle were my Dad's age and my kids aren't anywhere near playing professional sports age.
