Suarez and Diego together is the surest sign ever that Atleti really aren't interested in winning hearts and minds.

Apparently, Suarez was devastating for the twenty odd minutes that he was on for. Plus, Jo?o Felix also had a very good game. And Granada are a decent team too, although maybe they hadn't fully recovered from their Thursday evening Europa League game. This could be atleti's year.

Midweek fixtures this week include a difficult away trip for Barcelona in Vigo (Aspas loves these matches) and this evening's Real Sociedad - Valencia, with the away team passing through one of its almost annual crises, not to mention the chronic problems which have afflicted the club for years.

A very unconvincing 1-0 win at home for Madrid yesterday against Valladolid.
Every time I see Sergio Gonzalez, the Valladolid manager, on the touchline I have to google to find out whether it's
His touchline attire is always a tad incongruous.

It's clear that the show's producers are, quite rightly, very empathetic towards Eibar's story of swimming against the tide of financial reality and surviving. Everyone at the club seems worth rooting for. This season's miserable start - one point from four games - makes me instinctively fear for them. This week's game against Elche already had a 'relegation six pointer' feel about it and a wretched 0-1 home defeat may have Eibar's fans fearing the worst.

After a wobble Real Betis back on track with an impressive 2-0 away win at improving Valencia.
Similarly Rayo Vallecano in Segunda Division bounce back from a heavy defeat last week with a 4-0 thrashing of Malaga. Of course the link between Rayo and erratic form is a long established one.

Yes, bless him. He's not going far from him mum and dad. He's been at Madrid since he was about 5 - he's now 22 - but has only played a couple of games in goal for the first team in all of that time. I am really enjoying this super-frugal version of Madrid - no incomings and a shitload of departures although I know this is purely temporary and normal service will be resumed next summer when they spunk 100s of millions on Mbappe.

As to the title race, well we'll see where we are after next weekend but I think Atleti are looking most likely to be the team to challenge the big two. A 0-2 away win at Celta yesterday, Suarez scoring again.
But props to Getafe, Granada and Cadiz who are all above Atleti at the moment. And Villareal who, if they beat Valencia this afternoon (currently 2-1 in their favour) go top of the league.

Rayo following up with a hard earned goalless draw at Oviedo. Apart from one slip up Rayo generally seem tougher and more resilient than in recent seasons. The new coach appears to have put some much needed grit in their diet and it bodes well for the club as this will be a difficult division to get out of.

Looked at the rayp bench the other day to see if zidane's son was on the bench. Yes he was, as was Bebe, the Portuguese player who spent a few years at man utd.
Anyway, el clasico. It's one all after ten minutes at the nou camp. Valverde first, fati equalised some three minutes later. Two mediocre defences. They'll be more goals in this one.
