I know nothing about the ownership and the longer term finances but at least the players have been given the chance to play their way out of relegation this season - the EFL have said the 12 point penalty will be imposed if they finish above the bottom three. That could still result in relegation, of course, but not if they finish 13 points above. They're currently eight clear. The incentive is to keep going, as if they finish in the bottom three 'naturally' they'd start next season on -12 in League One.
