    Uncapped 11

I'm sure that this has been done before, though I couldn't find a thread, anyway here's mine.

    1. Carlo Cudicini
    2. Sylvan Distan
    3. Colin Gibson
    4. Steve Bruce
    5. Tommy Caton
    6. Dennis Mortimer
    7. Paul Davis
    8. Jimmy Case
    9. Jimmy Greenhoff
    10. Paolo Di Canio
    11. David Wagstaff

I'm sure there's better uncapped players out there, Gibson stands out like a sore thumb. I also used the English top division, so anyone with more knowledge than me could do a list from Bundesliga, Serie A or la Liga.

Isn't it illegal to not mention Steve Bruce and Billy Bonds in this context?

He's got Bruce and may not be old enough to be aware of the Bonds rule

Cudicini's father was better than he was and also uncapped.

        Bloody hell, I need spectacles.

No, he must be old enough for the Bonds Law, as he's obeyed the Greenhoff (J) Law, which existed at the same time.

Was there a Mick Bates Law as well?

Unfortunately, I am old enough, I thought Bonds picked up a pity cap late on. I
did include Greenhoff, who's the other regular.

I'd nominate Paul Cooper to go in goal. Best penalty-saver ever. FACT! (made-up).

And someone needs to find replacements for Jimmy Case (evil thuggish git) and Paul Davis (might have been good at Arsenal, but when he was at Brentford the crowd cheered ironically if he ever set foot outside the centre circle. So, twice in nine games).

I always thought Dede never got a game for Brazil, but I just looked him up: one cap in 2004.

Thomas von Heesen could replace Paul Davis.

                    German Uncapped XI

                    Goalkeeper:
                    Stefan Klos

                    Defence:
                    Udo Horsmann (Bayern)
                    Franz Merkhoffer (Braunschweig)
                    Horst Blankenburg (Ajax Amsterdam)
                    Dieter Prestin (1. FC Koln)

                    Midfield:
                    Thorsten Fink (Bayern)
                    Klaus Scheer (Schalke)
                    Dieter Bast (RW Essen/Bochum)
                    Thomas von Heesen (Hamburg)

                    Attack:
                    Fritz Walter (Waldhof Mannheim/Stuttgart)
                    Hans-Joachim Abel (Bochum)

To be fair, this team would have been a solid bet to survive the group stages in a world cup. Other than Klaus Scheer, who was a huge talent, and perhaps Fritz Walter and von Heesen, none of these players can feel to have been fucked over by the national coach.

There are a few players who played just a few times for Germany who might have been big stars, like Franz Roth (who scored in three European finals), but had better players ahead of them.

Was always Terry Hibbitt in my neck of woods.

Aye. Pop Robson was only England’s best uncapped player during his West Ham phases. Funny that.

The only Brotherston(e) I can recall is former Blackburn winger Noel who had plenty of caps with Northern Ireland.

Lukic; Swain, Bruce, Mountfield, Parkin; Kenny Hibbitt, Kendall, Mortimer, Wagstaffe; Greenhoff, Pop Robson. Subs to include Paul Lake and Gary Shaw who would almost certainly have been called up but for career ending injuries. Somehow I feel that makes them less eligible than players who saw out a full career without getting a cap. No doubt unfairly.

How about an uncapped XI from one club? Villa's League championship / European Cup winners give me a good start, seven were never capped.
Burridge (Rimmer and Spink got half a game each), Swain, Aitken (Scotland), Teale, McNaught (Scotland), Mortimer, Graydon, Shaw, Lochhead (Scotland), Grealish (at the time of writing), Taylor. If and when Grealish gets picked, Draper can have the number ten shirt.

To paraphrase Yes, Prime Minister, "With respect, Prime Minister, we can't send two Bryan Robsons to the England team, it will look like a job lot."

Had a go at Arsenal, had to make it 3-4-3, otherwise I'd have forced Saka to play left back again.

                                            John Lukic

                                            Willie Young

Chelsea's "Chopper" Harris would be one of the most famous uncapped players, though probably not one of the best. Still, there were plenty of capped cloggers in his era (Peter Storey won 19 caps, if you can believe it - I don't).
