Can Arsenal make something of their games in hand?

Bloody hell Tottenham. Not that I especially want to see them relegated but it is fun seeing them down there.

It’s going to need a miracle to get of this and one that - if he pulls it off - will stand Chris Waddle in good stead for the rest of his managerial career.

This was a day of infamy at Oakwell, when a blatantly biased ref all but doomed Barnsley to relegation.

I was at Portman Road today and, as is my wont at this time-rich stage of my life, before I even think about having children and stuff, I have done a little write-up for my personal records.

It wasn't great from Town today, but all that matters is the three points. It's a shame we couldn't keep up those "free-scoring ways" - Town's previous five home games have finished 5-1 v Huddersfield, 5-0 v Norwich, 5-2 v Oxford, 3-1 v Charlton and 3-0 v Wolves - but things are certainly fun at the moment. To think we were in the relegation places in November!

Only someone with a heart of stone could chuckle at moneybags Middlesbrough losing a third consecutive major Cup Final.

I hope that doesn't ruin our play-off chances too much. We've already had one near miss last season and I'm starting to get deja vu.

Fulham in particular worry me. Al Fayed's money, Keegan and Wilkins' knowhow and they've got some firepower.

Our defence is starting to concern me - if it comes down to goal difference, we're screwed.

A much needed win today just about keeping us out of the relegation places. It wasn't a classic, none of our games that season were. This Phil Starbuck that used to be at Nottingham Forest we've just signed isn't very good either.

Those games in hand for Burnley could be crucial, I wonder if it could all come down to a last day winner stays up showdown at Turf Moor.

Dire result today for us. One of the weakest Norwich sides I can remember since I first started watching them, although a chunk of this down to injuries and a young squad. Mike Walker is struggling to get the best of out this side in his second spell and I really fear we might go down.

Spending hours playing Tomb Raider on my new PlayStation which I bought in the Arndale yesterday. Worryingly addictive and a lot better than the football at the moment.

I was at the 0-2 defeat at Swansea. Don't recall much about it, just another routine defeat a one of my least favourite away trips (always took forever to get there). Looking at the table though, I had witnessed one of Doncaster's 3 wins, a truly shocking performance from Chester on a freezing night in December (can't remember if that was their first win of the season). I think we may have relegated them a couple of weeks after this weekend's fixtures. What I wouldn't give now for mid table 4th division mediocrity!

Interesting that Scowcroft was "controversially preferred" - felt like he used to score in practically every game he played for Ipswich in that era?

I'm sure the Ipswich crowd on here will back this up, but didn't Scowcroft divide the fans so much that the issue actually became pretty heated? I'm sure I remember an article in WSC about it,

Southport have one foot in the Trophy final after a 1-0 win at Slough today. Hopefully we can hang on in the home leg next Saturday.

Diable Rouge Scowie was never as popular with supporters as he deserved to be, but in this particular case his selection was controversial because the front two in all of those recent high-scoring victories had been Mathie and Johnson. Scowcroft had come on and scored in the previous week's win over Wolves, but it was still a surprise to see him in the starting line-up ahead of Mathie.

                                          Edit - Arturo is correct.

I was living in the Netherlands and went to the Hoofdklasse Zaterdag A match Excelsior Masssluis vs Ter Leede on a nice sunny afternoon. A goal from Floor van Duyn gave Ter Leede a vital 1-0 win in their struggle against relegation. Masssluis were mid-table with little to play for.

During Doncaster Rovers 4-1 defeat at Rochdale one of our supporters managed to climb into the dugout and sat down next to the then manager Mark Weaver, tap him on the shoulder and asked "what's going on then, Mark?" before he was noticed and duly escorted out the ground. It was one of the smaller-scale protests of the season.

Incredibly we were still not mathematically relegated at this stage, despite now fielding effectively the youth team plus a small handful of senior pros. We'd earn an extra stay of execution by beating Hull City at home the following week, before eventually getting relegated at Chester in a fortnight.

Here's team captain Lee Warren rallying the troops on the way to that Chester match.

In amongst all my memories of that day I'd completely forgotten that Chris Waddle was your manager.

Four years previous we'd travelled overnight to play a game against a group of Burnley fans (I was robbed of a late equaliser by one of our our lot flagging me for offside), given a tour behind the scenes of Turf Moor where the Fall fans recreated scenes from the Kicker Conspiracy video and getting along brilliantly. Now here we were chucking seats on the pitch. What a miserable afternoon.

That win at home to Leicester gives us hope. An inspired goalkeeping performance from Keith Branagan and generous refereeing from Uriah Rennie, who always favours us for some reason, put Leicester to the sword.

They'll be some upset folk if Everton stay up at our expense this year. The goal that never was, in the first game at our new ground could come back to haunt us. Isn't it about time that the Premier league had some sort of goal line technology?
