Meanwhile here’s Ipswich winning the FA Cup. A lovely 15 minutes if you’ve got it.
Thoughts:
To my shame I managed to miss John Wark and Kevin Beattie off my list when nominating!
Ipswich were really, really good, especially Clive Woods who appeared to have a free role on both wings;
Paul Mariner was better than I remembered, and David Geddis was terrifying the Arsenal defence at only 19;
For Wembley, it was incredibly muddy - watch Woods taking corners;
Roger Osborne’s strike was a lot better than in my memory;
Played in a great spirit;
Jack Charlton co-commentating with Barry Davies; I didn’t remember that at all:

So Bill's Spurs do for Brendan's Celtic 8-0 over two legs, and that gives us the 32 teams we need for the group stage. The draw will take place in due course.
For the draw we have three separate pots:
Pot A - The two teams seconded twice will take the hosts and holders slot at the opposite ends of the draw. They will share a group with three un-seconded teams.
Pot B - The 12 seconded teams (I got us to this amount by seconding Man United 98-99) will take up two of the places in each of the other six groups.
Pot C - The 18 un-seconded teams will take up the remaining group places. Three each with the teams from Pot A as mentioned, and two each with the teams from Pot B.
Clear as fucking mud. And you thought the Nation's League was complicated.
Sadly because of Covid 19 restrictions we can no longer hold our planned four hour draw ceremony hosted by Adrian Durham and Alan Brazil from Talksport alongside Robbie Savage, so the draw will now take place behind closed doors. It will be drawn by the competition admin Sean of the Shed, and will be overseen for fairness by the competition adjudicator, also Sean of the Shed.

Once the draw has been announced then the voting for the first two groups will take place. I will try to allow around 24 hours for each day's voting, so that should hopefully see us doing the Third place play off and final a week on Sunday.

Sorry, haven’t been here all day, but the nomination of Rogers’ Celtic is ridiculous and I’m glad it’s been rejected. My granny could have done as a job as Brendan, given the lack of competition, the huge differential in financial resources (abetted by UEFA giving massive financial rewards for what could be deemed mediocre performance or even failure) and their dismal performance in Europe. Let me get my tin hat on.

Just select 1, 2 or X against each game, though feel free to extrapolate further on any matches you like.
I will sort out the final result tomorrow evening and put out the next games.Last edited by Sean of the Shed; 25-03-2020, 19:31.

Milan 86-90** v Liverpool 18-20 1 (close run but genius tells)
Derby County 71-75 v USSR 86-88 2 (Derby game but Soviet defensive work slightly superior to Ram power)
Derby County v Liverpool 2 >(Derby hold out for 70 minutes but succumb to a wonder strike by Firmino)
Milan v USSR 1 (the Italians far too strong for a workmanlike but limited USSR)
Milan v Derby County 1 (no contest)
Liverpool v USSR 1 (flair beats dour defence)

Barcelona 08-09* v Real Madrid 55-60 X (as in many clásicos, the strong attacks are smothered by keen defences. Cagey first game, nobody wanted to lose)
Everton 84-85* v Napoli 15-18 1 (brittle Italians fall to a solid Evertonian team)
Everton v Real Madrid 2 (Di Stefano, Puskas,, Gento y los demás begin to purr)
Barcelona v Napoli 1 (Napoli no match, natch)
Barcelona v Everton 1 (too easy)
Real Madrid v Napoli 1 (class tells)Last edited by Sporting; 25-03-2020, 19:28.

Group A
Milan 86-90** v Liverpool 18-20 : Milan win 2-1, two early goals by Rijkaard and Van Basten defy a Liverpool bombardment despite a late header from Van Dijk
Derby County 71-75 v USSR 86-88 : a nervy 1-1 draw, Blokhin scoring early but Derby equalising. Two players sent off from each side are going to deplete them for further group games.
Derby County v Liverpool : A comfortable 3-0 win for Liverpool, as Derby fail to understand how the visitors' wingbacks get up the pitch so fast in the mud of the Baseball ground
Milan v USSR: The USSR shock the world by just shooting on sight from midfield and win 3-2.
Milan v Derby County: 0-0, as Milan play the ball around midfield for 88 minutes in the mistaken belief that a draw will see them qualify, until hearing the news from Anfield
Liverpool v USSR : 1-0 to the home side with an injury time goal from Adam Lallana.
