Originally posted by Rogin the Armchair fan View PostReal Madrid v France - As is often the way with third place playoffs, the game hardly ever feels truly competitive, and Michel Platini and Raymond Kopa appear to spend half the game exchanging jokes in midfield. The Wembley crowd is hugely entertained by a free-flowing game neither team was able to demonstrate in the semi-finals, however, and Real Madrid lead 3-2 at half time with an Alfredo di Stefano hat-trick which makes him the tournament's top scorer so far, despite Jairzinho's five goals against Lincoln in the group stages. France equalise after a mazy run out of defence by Tresor ends up finding Rocheteau who cuts inside and finds Didier Six, who blasts in. Both teams relax knowing penalties are coming, and when they do, the French look far too relaxed as Bossis, Tigana and Six all miss to allow Real to win the shootout 3-1 without even taking their fourth kick.
France for me, meaning Real Madrid have now lost at both old and new Wembley.

Real Madrid.
its been a brilliant tournament Sean.
im assuming that the final will be on BBC1 and presented by Des Lynham.
Brian Moore has been recruited for commentary
they have lined up early period Hansen and Brian Clough circa 72 as pundits.

Unfortunately the choice of commentators is not nearly so enticing, with Tyldsley and Townsend on ITV and Motty and Lawrenson on the Beeb.

Is the game in blistering mid-day heat Azteca for 1970 European TV tea-time viewers, or not-quite-so-bonkers late afternoon heat Azteca for 1986 European TV late evening viewers?Last edited by Rogin the Armchair fan; 04-04-2020, 11:32.

That will be a noon kick off in Mexico, then (so a 6pm kick off BST). It'll be 24 degrees and sunny with a little cloud this afternoon, so not too stifling for the players - similar conditions to a nice sunny June afternoon in Europe. So not too much of a factor.
