The title of this thread is becoming bitterly ironic. There have been three days of meetings with the FAI in an attempt to get the season started again. There seems to be a unsurmountable gap between the clubs who want to start the season again and those who don't. The FAI's only idea is that the clubs who've qualified for Europe to share their European prize money, which has been included in their audited budget for the season, with the rest of the league. Very philanthropic I'm sure, but coming from one of those clubs, who got nothing but abuse from the top table when we were struggling, not a hope.

League of Ireland looking likely to be back in August after the FAI upped it's original bailout offer from 1.7 million euros to 3.3 million.

The son of Dundalk's billionaire owner offered to put up 2 million, which the FAI turned down over conflict of interest. He has also offered to buy out part of the FAI's share of their Aviva stadium white elephant.

Government announces €70 million rescue package for GAA,Football and Rugby. It will be interesting to see the split, considering Football is the unloved middle child, not as popular as GAA, not as wealthy or connected as Rugby.

After weeks of discussions, the League of Ireland is back on 31st July. The original proposal has been accepted, with two rounds of games, 18 in total, added to the five each played already. One up one down, with the second bottom side in the premier division playing the winner of a play off between the 2nd to 5th place teams in the first. Current bottom side Sligo are objecting, based on the fact that they may be relegated, as far as I can see.

No idea yet, behind closed doors to start with, hopefully some crowds will be allowed by September if things haven't deteriorated. The FAI have spoken about a streaming service, so that people can see the games at home. Given their usual efficiency in these areas, it should be ready by 2028!

With this significant point - "A maximum of 200 spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor events, with the number rising to 500 from 20 July."

We're hearing very little officially about whether crowds will be allowed. The only spectator sport that's up and running at the moment is Horse Racing, and that's still behind closed doors. I don't know what we'd do if 500 were allowed in, we have 2,800 members and season tickets alone, so some kind of rota system would have to be set up, and I can imagine the problems that would cause.

Just got an email from my club about the restart. There'll be less than 400 fans allowed in games, with tickets for members and season ticket holders in alphabetical order. With probably only 6 home games to be played, it looks like we'll get to one game each. The club is buying a streaming season ticket for all of us, so at least I'll get to see the rest of the games, which is something at least.

That's buggered my hopes of popping over for a few games at less well-attended teams then, I suppose.

Bohs have seemed one of the better-run League of Ireland clubs ever since it became supporter-owned - though given Cork's current financial woes, that's no guarantee of stability.

What,in 1890. We've always been a member owned club and nearly went bust on half a dozen occasions. The main difference now is of course, competent people at the top, and some excellent promotion and marketing.

After 4 months without a game, first game back is a 4.1 beating by Dundalk. Some awful defending that we need to sort out. seand will be a lot happier.

All 10 clubs in the league of Ireland premier division, and 10 out of 12 in the Irish league have asked the FAI and IFA to contact UEFA regarding a merger of the two leagues. The FAI are in favour but the IFA are strongly opposed. The opinion of the lower league teams is unclear at the moment.

                                          WE'RE BACK!!!

Officially the last league in Europe to resume games, reopens in two hours time. No fans, and no crowd noises so the players have been asked not to swear on live television.

                                          This Weeks Fixtures

                                          SLIGO ROVERS V DERRY CITY.

Bottom of the table without a win, Sligo were the driving force behind relegation being suspended for this season, but a GoFundMe cash injection has helped them sign last season's top scorer Junior, who was with Derry last year. Derry had an indifferent start to the season, but should be good enough for a point

                                          Draw

                                          DUNDALK V ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC

It's the pupil against the master as former Dundalk captain Stephen O' Donnell brings his Patrick's side to Oriel park for the first time. Pti's have an excellent squad on paper, on grass ( or synthetic in this case) not so much.

                                          Dundalk win

                                          SHELBOURNE V WATERFORD

Upwardly mobile Shels paid their players throughout lockdown, Waterford looked like they were going out of business at one stage. Waterford manager Alan Reynolds jumped ship to join Dundalk as assistant manager, replaced by John Sheridan, who hopes to have Daryl Murphy signed in time for tomorrow's game. Will they hit the ground running?

                                          Shelbourne win

                                          SHAMROCK ROVERS V FINN HARPS

The Haves versus the Have nots. Ollie Horgan does a tremendous job with the resources he has in Donegal, but anything other than a hoops win would be a major shock.

                                          ROVERS WIN

                                          CORK CITY V BOHEMIANS

CORK have been forced to rely on youth this year, though they have brought in the experienced Graham Cummins and Kevin O'Connor. Bohs look hopefully too strong for them though

                                          BOHS WIN

Some first division clubs are streaming their own games, I don't think the Students are.

Sligo get the first win of the post lockdown season, Dundalk take the lead following a horrible Pat's defensive mistake ,and while I'm typing this, former Dundalk player Robbie Benson equalises within a minute.
