    Depression in Retired Footballers

His son claims Pele has depression. There is a stigma attached to this illness that means the true levels of depression cannot be known but I was wondering if there have been any case studies of footballers with the illness? Perhaps WSC could do a feature on it?

I wonder if there’s anything which was written after Gary Speed’s tragic death. Whether in WSC or elsewhere.

Cricket has been well served with biographies in this field but that might be because the stigma is less acute there.

Clarke Carlisle would be a starting point - he has a book and regular speaking engagements.

The footballer Leon McKenzie whose ( I think he played for Norwich and Palace) He is the son of one of the boxer brothers Clinton, he has spoken up a bit about it in the last few years.
