    Trencin 3 Zilina 0

Played in Zilina, but officially Trencin's home game. It felt that way too, even if 75% of the 1,902 crowd were Zilina fans. It was very even till the 70th minute, with both sides having good spells of possession and the 'keepers busy. Then the Trencin right-back curled one in with his left foot, a second goal followed within seconds, and that was that. That first goal showed Trencin haven't completely given up on their 'total football' ideals, but they worked harder on their defensive play than they've done in years. They appointed a new coach a couple of weeks back, and should climb the league table quite rapidly on this evidence.

Zilina were Slovan's nearest challengers at the top ahead of the game, but they're 5 points behind them now. I'm worried the Slovak league is about to become one of those one-club leagues, which would be a shame after four years with four different champions.

Salford have issued an apology for the behaviour of their fans at the game. Presumably this is in reference to the female steward's broken nose rather than the ninety minutes of offering out home fans, V-flicking and peculiar simulated sex. There was a cameraman in with them filming (for a documentary?). I will be interested to see if and how they package the events of the afternoon.
