They [Sutton Athletic] host Ashford Town - the Middlesex one - in the next round and will certainly give them a game.

I was more correct with this than I expected to be. Sutton Athletic beat Ashford Town 6-0!

As detailed on the weekend matchgoing thread, I saw VCD Athletic draw 3-3 with AFC Uckfield Town in front of a crowd of just 52. I'd be surprised if there are any lower attendances in this round.

As in.... most people at the first match I attended in the tournament (which was the first match in the thread) were in favour of there being 'No Deal [Town]' in the next round.


Although in hindsight this will get tenuous as the tournament progresses. I'll ponder an alternative.

Seems like there's a mither a-brewing in N17.

Haringey Borough beat Herne Bay 3 - 0 in their FA Cup first round qualifying match but there was bother at the game because Herne Bay, despite being 565 miles from Northern Ireland brought an Ulster Banner (i.e. the flag of the segrationist government which was brought down by the UWC strike in 1974) emblazoned with "Herne Bay, Loyal and True" (referencing the first line of the Orange marching song The Protestant Boys). By all accounts it's a standard Herne Bay flag and "no-one else has complained before" because they play most of their matches in Kent.

Some Boro fans made a fuss and but in the end, after both clubs' committees had tried to get Kent's biggest Ulster Unionist to take it down, they gave up. So Boro put a statement on their website explaining what happened and their policy going forward.

Now it seems like people with twitter handles like UDA_fan_1689 are very angry at the club.

Herne Bay fans are also trying to grass Haringey up to the FA for drinking beer in sight of the pitch, something which I think is now allowed as of this season in FA Cup matches...

Have the FA worked out what they're doing about Bury's expulsion yet? These are the 80 ties that will lead to 40 teams going to the 4th qualifying round, where 24 national league teams join in supposedly sending 32 teams to join what are now 47 in a first round draw meant for 80. Is it at that draw someone will get a bye, or are they going to go lucky loser?

Replay defeats for Arundel and Sutton Athletic last night mean that there are no more Step 6 sides left in the competition.

Including Sunderland RCA who have a 1st Round Qualifying replay tonight there are (by my reckoning) 15 Step 5 teams left in the Cup.

Lowest ranked of those (at the moment) is Boston Town who are 18th in the United Counties League, followed by Portland United, 17th in the Wessex League.

Whatever happens there will be at least one Step 5 team in the 3rd Round Qualifying Draw courtesy of the match between Walthamstow (Essex Senior League) and Abbey Rangers (Combined Counties)
