Had the unusual phenomenon of Carlisle's game being deemed significant enough on a global scale that I was able to get a live stream and connect the laptop to the TV and watch it, commentary and all.

Surprisingly good first half from Carlisle, to go in 2-0 up before Cardiff quickly got it back to 2-2 soon after the restart. The ball seemed to have gone well over the line in the build up to their second, and we had a big handball penalty shout turned down as well. We still could and should have won it when Hallam Hope set himself up brilliantly with a 1-2 in the box and then blazed it over with the goal, as it were, at his mercy.

Still, much better than expected following the disaster at Crewe the other day, and fancy we will give them another decent game in the replay.

The name Josh Windass is a wonderful collision of the old and the new, football wise.

Another excellent goal by Shandon Baptiste

Waiting for a team to be knocked out by a goal in a VAR-less replay, one which would have been disallowed in the first game. Or vice-versa.
As I said in the matchgoing thread, I went to two games today. In the first, which had no VAR, Hull won at Rotherham with two decisive goals that by all accounts would have been ruled out by VAR. Later, Wigan scored what looked like a good goal that would've put them right back in the game, but it was disallowed for one of these hairline offsides by VAR. Just felt so utterly unfair to see effectively two different match conditions in the same tournament on the same day.

That's why those of us who actually watch football live are totally different to those who only gawp on telly.

Tom Pope's goal v Man City somehow made it feel like a win.

Not altogether sure what point he’s trying to make with those tweets, however.

Hmm, he has shown poor Twitter judgement in the recent past, the Crewe one (that led to a one match ban) being his lowest point (so far).

Curtis Jones has just scored a world-class goal to put Liverpool 1-0 up. Seriously, what a finish.

Almost as good as yesterday's by Kyle Vassell...

That could well have been flagged pre-VAR imo, it was close but not hairline.

                            That was unexpected, and glorious.

                            You'll win nothing with kids.

Fun fact: Curtis Jones wasn't alive the last time Everton won at Anfield.

That was an absolute beauty, reminded me of a great David Villa goal.

Basically, isn't the result a humiliation for Everton? Even with a virtually full-strength team, they still couldn't beat a largely reserve Liverpool side.

If their forwards could hit any part of the goal that Adrian wasn't standing in, they would have won easily by half time.

Exactly. If Everton had a striker worthy of the title they'd have been three up and coasting at half time. Instead they came out in the second half and tried to play out from the back against a bunch of fired-up kids and allowed Liverpool to press them back.

The one thing it must be is a reality check for Ancelotti. He's got one hell of a job on his hands to turn them around.

QPR introduced young Joe Gubbins at CB as a sub against Swansea today. Can there possibly be a better name for a footballer than his, especially a defender?

He sounds more 1920s than 2020s.

No idea I'm afraid. He's 19 and from Southampton, that's all I can find at present.

Apparently (sorry if I've missed it mentioned previously) there is some additional prize money for the team in each division which gets the furthest in the competition - don't know if it is the same for each division but apparently for League Two it is £250,000. This has the potential to make Carlisle's replay against Cardiff even more high stakes for the club, and would have been even more so if Northampton hadn't won at Burton today.

Enjoyed the young man's self-confidence in his post-match interview as well, basically bemoaning the fact that he's not getting more starts in this current Liverpool side.
