Apparently Cadiz are at the bottom of the Segunda Division season list for possession with 42%. Either they've gone unusually direct in their play or use the ball well when.they have it.

Where did you find these stats, Tony?

Segunda division stuff via twitter. Either friends who I went to Rayo with when I was there or established Madrid-based journalists and Rayo fans like Robbie Dunne or Paul Reidy.

Robbie Dunne's book on Rayo is pretty good, by the way.

Oh, and Rayo top the aforementioned Segunda Division possession table with 60%. Clearly they don't always use the ball quite so well.

Real Madrid's decline continues. By all accounts a pretty tame surrender at Mallorca.

Atletico and Villareal are floating the Miami balloon again but opinion seems to be that it won't get past the Spanish FA and/or FIFA:

Rayo's improved spell ends with a 1 -3 home defeat by Ponferradina. Star striker Leonardo Ulloa sent off needlessly in the last minute so Rayo reverting back to tradition with that.

According to 'La Liga Spanish Podcast' Real Betis became the first team in Spanish football history to record clean sheets in three consecutive seasons in away league games against Real Madrid.

One runs out of adjectives for Messi - not just a hat-trick, but two superlative free kicks against Celta.

Not really a La Liga thing, but Luis Enrique is coming back to manage Spain after his daughter's death, but somehow the FA seem to have handled this really badly and left caretaker boss Moreno pissed off in the extreme.

In Segunda Division Rayo Vallecano continue their awful run with a defeat at struggling Real Oviedo via the trademark late penalty. Rayo now only three points ahead of Oviedo but desperately need to turn a corner.

The plus side of this is that I have a lot of time for Oviedo and their proactive fans (I presume lots of people on OTF will be familiar with the financial turmoil of a few seasons ago and Sid Lowe's involvement) and want to see them survive. But I didn't eant them to win today.

Messi almost certainly wins the Barça-Atletico game with mere minutes left.
