Anyone know why Curacao's three letter code is CUW? Only there isn't a CUR on the list. It's a CURiosity that.

      For Willemstad, presumably?

Might be. We'll get the chance to muse further about it in the quarter-finals, because Curacao grabbed an added-time equaliser against Jamaica to move up to second place in their group. That meant that, in the second match of the double header, El Salvador needed a point (or even a 2-1 defeat) against already eliminated Honduras to put Curacao out ... however their old friends beat them 4-0 instead to send them home too.

Playing the final games in each group as double headers maximises the West Germany - Austria possibility mentioned on the U21 thread, doesn't it?

Boy, the CMNT certainly screwed the pooch against Haiti tonight. 2-0 up and cruising at HT, they gifted one goal from a massive mis-communication between keeper and defender. Then the same player gave away so blatant a penalty that even if the penalty kick didn't exist they'd have invented it on the spot. After that pure panic set in and you knew it was just a matter of time, and so it was. Haiti scored their deserved winner with about ten minutes to go. So effing typical.

Fantastic game and I still can't see how Canada's late "equalizer" was offside...goal highlights here

It was, by a couple of feet. Had to be really, just to rub things in a bit more. Herdman's getting (metaphorically) hung from a lamp-post this morning, but it wasn't entirely his fault. It's a very young team but it contains a handful of experienced pros who should have shown more leadership on the pitch, Hoilett, Arfield, Hutchinson particularly.

Haiti looked great against Mexico, who needed a very late penVARlty to win 1-0.

Gregg "Same-Aged Jersey Boy I Played Against" Berhalter gets the 3-1 win against Jamaica for....get this....a USA-Mexico Final in the Gold Cup.

I woke up at stupid o'clock this morning and ended up watching the delayed denouement to that match. Which included three of the goals.

Jamaica looked decent and were a shade unlucky, I thought.

The MLS played virtually a full round of fixtures last night while this match was going on. Was that them metaphorically flipping CONCACAF the bird about their tournament, or were there contractual things neither party could get out of around scheduling?

MLS has always put two fingers up to any international tournament. They just don't care.

There was a lot of moaning by TSN's play-by-play guys about that during the Canada/Haiti match and the Whitecaps/Sounders game which followed. It was unusual given how much they're usually up MLS's rear end.

As we speak, there are four major international tournaments occurring simultaneously.

Therefore I'd propose that football's 'bird-flipping' is pretty much across the board.

Didn't stay up for it but the highlights suggest it was one of those games that was all USA, but Mexico just managed to get the goal.

The American commentators pronounce yer man's name "Pulisick", as well (not Pulisitch as I'd assumed). Is that right?

It isn't what a Yugoslav would say, but it is how the player and his family pronounce their name.

The US started strong, but Mexico were the better team (as they usually are) even without Lozano, Herrera and a few of their other European-based players (the US had more in the starting elevens).

Are clubs allowed to withhold players for Confederation championships?

Each of the Mexicans reached an agreement with the Federation in that regard.

Lozano is recovering from an injury and Herrera wanted to settle with Atleti.
