    2019 Toulon Tournament

Stephen Kenny continues the excellent start to his reign with the Republic of Ireland's U-21s, and after beating China 4-1 on Monday, they ground out a scoreless draw with Mexico today, which means victory over Bahrain should ensure qualification for the semis, either as group winners or best runner-up, with Adam Idah of Norwich the outstanding talent in the squad. Elsewhere, Japan currently lead Portugal in Group A, with England eliminated, while Brazil are favourites to win Group B.

Since the glorious summer of 2017 England's youth squads have regressed somewhat. There's an argument it's partly because they're pushing the best talent up the age groups more so those left behind find it harder going - still, it's a tad concerning.

    2017-18
European Under-17s: Lost in semis (pens)
European Under-19s: Went out in group stage, lost play-off for last spot in 2019 Under-20 World Cup
    Toulon tournament (sent under-21s): Won

    2018-19:
European Under-17s: Out in group stage - no qualification for Under-17 World Cup
European Under-19s: Lost in second qualifying round
Toulon tournament (sent under-20s): Went out in group stage
    European Under-21s: TBC
